In the weeks since the Samsung Galaxy S4 first emerged, we’ve seen a number of rumors pertaining to its hardware, software and release date. The device, which is rumored to be replacing the Galaxy S3, a device that sold over 40 million units since launching in May, is currently slated to make its first official appearance at an event on March 14th.

Samsung Orb could be the Galaxy S4's version of Android 4.2's Photo Sphere.

Samsung Orb could be the Galaxy S4’s version of Android 4.2’s Photo Sphere.

It is there that we will likely catch a glimpse at its hardware, its release date and its software which is rumored to be Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. We also expect the device to have a bit of Samsung software on board and it appears that one of those features could be one that heavily borrows from Android’s Photo Sphere.

According to Android Geeks, the Galaxy S4 could be coming with a feature called Samsung Orb, a feature that seems to be modeled on the Photo Sphere camera feature that was introduced by Google in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Samsung Orb is apparently Samsung’s own version of a feature that delivers a 360-degree panorama mode for the device’s camera. Evidently, the Galaxy S4’s software will guide users through shooting a 360-degree panorama photo using the feature and users will simply have to shift their phone around in order to take the shot.

The source of the leak claims that the feature is even better than Google’s Photo Sphere, mainly due to the camera that will be on board the Galaxy S4. The camera, which has produced several alleged photo samples, is said to be 13MP.

It’s also said that Samsung has been working with Facebook to help Galaxy S4 users deliver these Samsung Orb photos directly to their friends and family on Facebook.

As for the rest of the Galaxy S4, it is rumored to have a 4.99 to 5-inch FHD display with 1080p resolution, a design that mirrors either the Galaxy S3 or Galaxy Note 8.0, and a quad-core processor.

It’s also thought to be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and if true, it could mean that Samsung’s Orb functionality could simply replace the Photo Sphere feature, much like its Camera app replaced the stock Android Camera app.
