Apple Watch Price: 5 Things You Need to Know

The Apple Watch price is finally something you can start planning for after the Spring Forward Apple Watch event. Apple now lists all the Apple Watch prices online, Apple Watch band prices and other important details that buyers need to know.

The Apple Watch Sport starts at $349 and goes all the way up to $17,000 for the Apple Watch Edition. For most users the Apple Watch is a mid-line option that offers a higher end option without reaching into the expensive level of the Apple Watch Edition.

No one is calling the Apple Watch cheap, but it is less expensive than an iPhone. There are no carriers involved to offer subsidized contract prices and it will likely be a long time before you see any Apple Watch deals, so don’t plan on paying less than the advertised prices.

Apple Watch pre-orders start on April 10th. This is the same day you can go into a store and check out the Apple Watch in person, trying it on at a special new table with various Apple Watch models.

Pay More for Bigger Apple Watch

Apple sells the Apple Watch in 38mm and 42mm size options. If you want to buy the 42mm Apple watch you’ll pay a higher price in most cases. For the higher price you should get longer battery life.

The bigger Apple Watch should deliver better battery life.

On the Apple Watch battery life page Apple states, “Apple Watch battery performance claims are based on test results from the 38mm Apple Watch. A 42mm Apple Watch typically experiences longer battery life.”

Apple Watch Band Prices

You can buy new Apple Watch bands to connect to your Apple Watch to change from fitness to fashion with a few clicks and snaps. There are no third-party Apple Watch bands on sale right now, so you will need to buy from Apple.

Apple Watch band prices aren’t cheap.

Apple Watch bands range from $49 to $449 and are available in a range of colors and materials. The Apple Watch Sport bands are $49 in 38mm and 42mm size. The Link bracelet is $449 and there are a number of modern buckle, leather loop and Milanese loop options for $149 and $249.

Apple Watch Accessories

In addition to bands Apple only sells three Apple Watch Accessories. You can buy a standard length Apple Watch charger for $29. This is a good addition if you travel as battery life is estimated at a day. You can also buy the Appel Watch charging cable in a 2 meter length for $39.

Apple also sells AppleCare+ for the Apple Watch. This extends the Apple Watch warranty to two years and includes issues with design failures and the Apple Watch battery depleting by 50% of the original specification. It also includes two replacements for accidental damage, including water damage, for a service fee. No pricing is available for Apple Watch AppleCare+ or the service fee yet.

Answer Calls on the Apple Watch

You can answer a call on your Apple Watch using it as a small Bluetooth speakerphone. You only want to use this for shorter calls because the audio quality isn't as good as when you are talking on speakerphone on your iPhone.  The Apple Watch only allows you to answer your calls on Speakerphone, so you won't want to use this all the time. It is very handy when you are working on a project or busy with your hands. Definitely be conscious of where you are taking calls. If you wouldn't talk on speakerphone, you shouldn't talk on your Apple Watch. If you buy the new Apple Watch with LTE, you can even make calls on the Apple Watch without your iPhone nearby. This requires adding the watch to your plan for $10 a month. You cannot answer a FaceTime video call on the Apple Watch.
