2019 XPS 13: Dell Perfects the Ultraportable

The new XPS 13 is the smallest 13-inch laptop Dell’s ever made. It comes complete with the expected InfinityEdge Display with super-small bezels, and you still get a top mounted webcam, long battery life, speedy 8th Gen Intel Core i processors and three new color options. Dell calls this the XPS 13, remastered, but they may as well have called it the Dell XPS 13 perfected.

With all the right refinements, Dell nails the needs of consumers looking for a portable laptop that looks great. It definitely arrives as a great MacBook Air alternative and with the new processors it’s an excellent 13-inch MacBook Pro alternative too.

Dell packs in a 2.25, webcam that can fit into the top of the display. This is a big deal for users that video chat often, as this means a head on view instead of an up your nose view for the person on a call with you.

Between the small bezels is the InfinityEdge 4K display with Dolby Vision and Dell Cinema tech optimizing the screen for watching content when you finish productivity. Even with a 13-inch display, the thin bezels keep it small at 0.3-0.46 inches thick 11.9-inches wide and 7.8-inches deep; which is the smallest 13-inch laptop Dell makes.

Inside the small package is up to 12 hours of battery life, up to Quad Core 8th Gen Intel Core processors and you get 2 ThunderBolt 3 ports, 1 USB C 3.1 port, a microSD card reader and a headset jack. Dell says this is the first laptop to use GORE Thermal Insulation, which helps move heat out of the XPS 13 to keep the laptop cooler to deliver better performance.

New XPS 13 color options for 2019.

Color options include the platinum silver aluminum with black carbon fiber as well as new frost and rose gold exterior and a brighter arctic white woven glass fiber palm rest that really shines when you open the 2019 XPS 13 up. The silver aluminum model is packaged with Dell’s Ocean Plastics Packaging, made from plastic trash that’s been recovered from waterways and recycled.

The 2019 Dell XPS 13 is available today with the UHD Touch display in Silver and Black and in Rose Gold and white. The Dell XPS 13 starts at $899. In late January you will be able to buy the new XPS 13 with UHD Touch in Frost/White; FHD Non-Touch in Silver/Black, Rose Gold/White and Frost/White. The Full HD touch display in Silver and Black is coming after January 2019.
