Don't Install Nougat If You're Worried About Problems

Don't Install Nougat If You're Worried About Problems

If you're having an excellent experience on Android Marshmallow and Nougat isn't all that exciting to you, think about waiting a few days before installing the software on your phone.

The Galaxy S7 Nougat update went through a beta but Nougat problems are plaguing all three versions of the Galaxy S7.

Galaxy S7 Android Nougat issues include various bugs and common problems like abnormal battery drain, broken connectivity, and busted apps. This is normal and we expect complaints to pickup as more people download and install the update on their phone.

If you want to avoid problems, avoid the initial version of Android 7.0 Nougat until you're ready to combat problems. You might also wait for Samsung or your service provider to roll out a new bug fix update.

Samsung is already rolling out a bug fixers to combat Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge problems and we expect more bug fix updates to deploy in the weeks ahead.

    Thank you very much. This article has saved me fifty hours of valuable time … time I would have spent installing the software directly from Sammobile website, redownloading the apps and setting them up, and rooting the phone all over.

    Thank you very much. It looks like I’m not missing much. And I’m my Marshmallow device is currently treating me very well! Thank you for taking the time to prepare this for us.

    Ok people …. A few top tips for this phone are :
    1 – go into settings and turn down the screen rez to HD ( 1280×720 ) because who lets face it who really needs 2560×1440 for everyday use , 2 – activate developer options ( https://www.androidcentral.com/how-enable-developer-mode-galaxy-s7 ) then turn down window , transition and animator scale to .5x ( makes it run a bit quicker ) and also switch on ” Don`t keep activities ” as this destroys every activity soon as the user leaves it ie stitches off what ever your using when you tap out of it so won`t keep running in the background .I easily have around 30% at 10.00pm from off charge at 8.00am since the nougat update but struggled when it was on lollipop to get through to even 7.00pm . Hope this helps as did my S7 ( mine is the s7 not s7 edge ).Many thanks… Maxsoundcaraudio.com

        Hey, Thanks, man! Your comment and the information that it contained was more helpful than the entire article! I am in US so I have yet to receive the Nougat update. However, the only real issue that I have read about, from S7 owners who have updated is a drop in battery life. Your suggestions sound like good solutions to the battery issue and I certainly will be implementing them immediately after I update to Nougat. Thank you!

    Well my Galaxy 7 edge stopped supporting my dual SIM. Had to remove second SIM otherwise mobile data network did not work anymore. Today I encounter a new problem. I was trying to add a 9MB picture to outlook, it’s impossible, outlook just crashes.

    Does anyone know how to disable the pop up notifications in Android S7 edge? Post tgr update to Nougat my phone hv been popping up with notifications from whatsapp, fb & gmail. I tried to disable it from the app notifiction settings but then it just disables everything…no sound when a msg comes in etc.
    Also post locking my phone screen, the screen display light doesnt turn off. Hence my battery gets drained quickly. The setting shows to turn it off but still no luck.

    Plez help!

    I am having serious battery drain issues despite all the steps recommended which I’ve taken. It’s also charging slower than molasses and I can’t seem to adjust the font size of my notifications (managed it everywhere else) which are in a font so small I’m using a magnifying glass with my regular glasses! And my visions not THAT bad! Overall, since losing my note 7, twice, this whole s7 experience has been a trainwreck and Samsung doesn’t seem to give a flip. I thought this update was supposed to bring note 7 camera additions as well but I’ve yet to see one single improvement or change really from the way it was before nougat. Maybe it IS time to become a “sour Apple” and switch. I’d rather teach a camel to eat pencils, but SS isn’t leaving me much choice. How can they not care more about fixing this experience for millions of it’s loyal customers?! So let down.

    02/28/2017 at 3:45 pm

    And I thought I was the only one with problems… I updated to Nougat on my S7 (Sprint) several days ago and I absolutely detest the font changes and the way the actual phone portion works now. I wish I hadn’t been so quick to update. My husband has an older Note and he’s still got the old Android version that I was comfortable with. Even the look of the actual phone call part has changed including my directory of contacts and favorites.

    Does anyone know a way to make it go back? When taking pictures on Sunday my battery drained soooo fast it was ridiculous. Up until this update I was pretty darn happy with my S7. Now I’m not. I guess it’s like everything– even YAHOO mail just updated and having similar unhappy moments with the changes. :-(

      Aloha CinDB,
      I totally agree with you, and am so unhappy with my S7 now. I did a factory reset, it does not go back…..Both my carrier and Samsung say it is not possible to revert back. I did a factory reset and yep, back to the ucky sticky nougat. This is what you would expect from Apple, which is why I went with Android in the first place…..

    Pros:
    * Better Notification Features (inside notifications)
    * Better Animations
    * Better design in Messaging App
    * Folder Icons are splitted 9/page
    * Better colors for folders (but only 5 colors)
    * Better icons for apps (except galery)
    * Related settings (“Looking for something else” feature)
    * Vibration Intensity
    * Notification Reminders

    Cons:
    * cannot hide apps anymore
    * Unresponsiveness (it’s laggier than Marshmellow even on performance mode) so lose the rapid movements
    * You lose samsung keyboard settings (even if they were synced on samsung cloud)
    * You lose wallpaper history
    * Bad design
    * too large fonts on lock screen
    * too large dialing buttons
    * ugly icon borders/crops – can be removed
    * quick settings are too small + text under them should be optional
    * motion effect wallpaper flickers (eg. when using the start search or switching “desktops”)
    * uglier UI font
    * Unresponsive settings – AVOID settings where all apps are listed
    * Vibration is very intense (but can be changed)
    Other notes:
    * Edge settings are kept
    * Search on app menu

    DO NOT UPDATE!!! This will turn your flagship phone into a second rate piece of junk. All my notifications are hours late. Camera is super jittery. All phone animations and transitions lag. So many bugs. Then there’s all the things they actually planned: design is terrible, UX is terrible, font is illegible, all helpful iconography in the pull down alerts have shrunk and abstracted to become useless… it was such a beautiful and super fast phone before the update, then the update jacked the whole thing up, and if you try to do a manual update, it says that you’ve already done an unauthorized modification to your OS and blocks you from doing any updates because it thinks you rooted the phone, but actually, it’s just part of their standard update.

    There are so many changes that there’s a lot to get used to. Some of the functions I used on a daily basis have moved and I can’t find them. Not a big fan of the home screen notifications as they all blend together now. I would say that at least 50% of the changes that I made to personalize everything when I first received this phone have all reverted back to a basic form. All in all, I hate this new update so far, but not as much as I hated the IPhone that I had before and the IOS system it used. I was definitely happier with Marshmallow and would love to go back to it.

    Cin Db you can go back to Marshmallow by doing a factory data reset but you will lose all you data so back up your important files and media before it .I hope it will work.

    How can I remove the update?
    The new keyboard, predictive text, and voice typing are terrible.
    Also, even though I have the screen set on sensitive touch, many times I’ll have to touch something several times before it will respond.

    I am NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!! I use my phone constantly for work and I CANNOT even read notifications! The font is too too TINY.. I have tried to go in an make bigger.. Cannot.. I wish I never updated.. I cannot see even where ti push the phone button to call a contact.. When I am on a call I cannot see that thin lined icon to even put it on speaker.. I HATE THIS UPDATE! Samsung has really done a doozy on this update. Drop down notification screen is so small you cannot read your notifications from the lock screen.
    The white background is not readable on any screen.
    Keyboard is awful; lag time is awful; predictive text on internet search is gone; notifications from apps are severely delayed; not able to dial out or receive calls without restarting the phone; notifications don’t clear they continue to pop up days later, even after reading. Favorite contacts are not on an Easy-to-Read screen anymore. Battery drain is horrible, nothing good to say about this new update.

    S7 phone after update completely messed up! Lost probably 80% of my contacts. Settings menu is worse. Font on lock screen is so light you can hardly read it. Can not get phone to connect to hands-free bluetooth in my truck now. Its like taking steps back years in technology. Just bought this phone four months ago, I tried doing master reset with no luck. I hate this phone now! Samsung needs to fix this!

    I use a S7 edge and so far the Nougat Software is good but still there’s many things to be fixed
    •The edge lighting for contacts with various colours (Well thats completely gone and i wish it would come back)
    •The option to switch off fast charging (That too is gone and i hope it to come back)
    •In the file browser the option to delete, share, and all others are same color as the top option bar (Light Blue) –Its basically invisible–

    I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I did the update on Friday. This update is NOT ready to be put out to the public AT ALL. There are so many problems with it. My edge assigned people are there but, my color codes on the edge feature does NOT work anymore, when I get a missed call or text It does not show the assigned colors or people on the edge at all. When I get an email and want to reply to it, there is NO reply button so now I am NOT able to reply to any emails at all. This update has made my battery run out a lot faster and, this update has also made my phone severely lag, freeze up, and run a lot slower . Also, the words are so small. I NEVER had any problems with any other update but this is by far, the absolute worst update ever. I took it to the Best buy Samsung representative and they kept trying to fix it but, since this update is so new, the software refresh is not even available yet. They were baffled at all the issues my phone was having because of this update. I strongly strongly encourage you to wait wait wait to do this update. There are so many problems with it. It should NEVER have been released w/o doing a lot better job first. I am so upset because now I have to wait and suffer with a non fully working phone until they get their act together and send out patches for their mistakes. Thinking about going to an iPhone.

    Well I had already installed nougat before reading this review and I am totally regretting as there are features that’s annoying even stupid. Why change compose SMS when it was more straightforward already and now it’s just redundant. You click on the compose icon and asks for recipients but you need to click on COMPOSE button on the top again. Second, I dont need the Google search on my homepage as I dont even have that many of apps on my phone. And not being able to disable it is so annoying. And the favorites list on top of contacts and sms is gone. I am so downgrading.

    Simply as that: Android 7 Nougat is Galaxy S7/S7 edge murderer… worst icons design ever, worst colors ever (totally fainted vs marshmallow UI), worst phone and sms menus, worst fast settings appearance ever, etc (as mentioned below).

    Please, bring back Marshmallow UI on Samsung’s phones!!!

    I don’t know about anyone else, but thee first indication that I had about this nougat os was the display showing that it was downloading updates, and I didn’t authorize it. I am very particular about what goes on my phone, especially since I have seen some of my chosen apps just up and disappear, and have found other apps that I never authorized on my phone; when I enquired about it with my provider I got told that they were factory authorized apps that they decided had to be on my phone… Needless to say I told them the way to hell on those ones… They may be the provider for my phone, but they don’t decide squat about what goes on it. I have also found that with one of my apps ( having received several threats over the years, I decided to install recording software on my phone so I could record for my protection ) one of the calls I recorded was deleted on me by my provider ( it was a specific payment arrangement that was done in my favor and I wanted proof in case it went to court. ) I’ll say this once: I hate lies and I hate deceptions.needless to say, the company said that the agent didn’t have the right to make that specific agreement, and they arbitrarily changed it on me with a suck it up or lose your service attitude. I find it contemptible that any company would pull those kind of tactics against their customers… Prior to this happening I was quite happy with them and was advertising them to anyone who had asked about my experiences with them.

    this update will actually cost me money. It has made my personal time disgusting. This is in addition to all of the previously mentioned negative comments with which I agree.

    I am on an unlimited data plan and for over 4 years now I have used my phone, with the application Foxfi, as a Wi-Fi hotspot in my home. I have had excellent connectivity and speed accessing the internet with my computer, Dish Hopper and sling, my tablet (is a which is on a 1 gigabyte data plan) and Roku with which I watch Hulu & Netflix regularly.
    As soon as I completed the update I went to connect my home to the Internet and received the popup message which reads “Your Carrier will not allow wifi mode on Android 7.0 and later.”

    Thanks Verizon. Squeeze every penny from your customers while making millions of dollars profit every quarter.

    Wow I was just at Best Buy and told the lady about this nougat update that downloaded to my S6 without my permission.She said theres nothing I could do about it.I didnt take that anwser.I kept ignoreing the update and factory reseting the phone everytime it told me the update was ready untill I could look into the problem.I eventually had to void my warrety with my provider and rooted and installed a custom kernel and rom and havnt had a problem since.I feel for all these people that lost there phones because of this update.This was exactly what I was avoiding.I hoped this helped someone.I too thinks its a bunch of bull that they force there update on you but tell you your stuck with the problems and cant go back.

    How do I revert back? This is a terrible upgrade. Battery life went from great to awful. I lost my bluetooth connection with my car and the phone cannot find it when I tried to reconnect. My apps seem less reponsive and making a phone call has suddenly become a chore since the screen has become less sensitive to my touch.

    I could do with the new version’s general uglyness, but really what they did to the keyboard is unbearable. I constantly use several languages but now the swype won’t work unless actuallw=y switch languages and when I do I go from azerty to querty to quertz. I have to actually look at the keyboard when I type. Why change something that worked perfectly well?

    Note it isn’t that easy to downgrade if you want to. Explain to users that it isn’t easy. Plus downgrading does have risks.

    I would suggest not updating till samsung has released a different build. Next one should be 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 either way I haven’t updated and have no plans to till samsung fixes the problems in this release which seems to be more of a test release since it is plagued with so many problems. I have heard battery is down by 39 percent therefore there are things to do to improve the barret life but with theach other problems don’t bother.

    Since my Samsung Galaxy S7 automatically updated to the latest Nougat, I don’t have sound notifications, I have trouble trying to call my wife, it messed up my icons, to name a few of the issues I am having. I took my phone to Best Buy (where I bought it) and that was a wasted 2 1/2 hours because instead of helping they lost my pictures before sending me to a Verizon Corporate store. The Verizon Corporate store wasn’t any help either. I am beginning to wish I had followed my wife’s lead and stayed with Apple iPhones.

    I don’t like the way the notices look when you pull down from the top, no distinction, everything is BLAH.

    I can’t find a way to change the font size or color there to see it better. now I just read if I factory reset I still come up with NOUGAT?

    I came to this page because I am also not happy with the changes to my phone -the notifications font size, loss of Favorites in phone contacts and messages ( it’s there, but different and more difficult to find).
    Kept being bugged by software update messages -thought I needed to do it. Sorry I did.

    If you have an S7 Edge & LUV the color you can associate on the People Edge, DO NOT DOWNLOAD NOUGAT. For some DUMB reason they removed the ‘color association’. That’s what actually made the S7 Edge soooo VERY UNIQUE. I actually talked a friend out of getting the S7 Edge. She was soooo excited about that Edge feature and removing the ‘color association’ has made it just another regular phone. So I suggest, if you LUV that feature, DO NOT download Nougat. SOOO VERY sad they took away feature away!!!

    If only my problem is just “ugly font”. 1) can’t receive calls 2) can’t dial out. I have to restart my phone every 3 hours just to get it working again. Being able to call people is the most basic function of a phone. I lowered my network, still doesn’t work!

    3) apps are all messed up. Music and YouTube stops every 2 min. I can’t even finish a song.

    And yes, totally don’t like the font. When are they sending out that patch?? Too many issues!

    This update sucks. Keyboard is TERRIBLE. It overwrote all my settings. Screwed up my SD card somehow. I wish I could go back, but sadly that doesn’t seem to be an option. It took a perfectly good phone that I actually liked and turned it into a phone I hate.

    Way to go Samsung.

    I have a galaxy s5 Note and installed the update a week ago- since then I have had 4 calls to tech support, 2 store visits, one factory reset on my existing phone and the joy of moving everything to a new phone. Now the new phone wants me to download the update. No freaking way! Issues were: no/random call and text sound (phone would show a call coming in but not ring or make any noise so I kept missing calls), no fast charging, random dimming of screen (while i use and nothing about lighting changed), randomly not connecting on outgoing calls. Oh, and the look of everything was just stupid now. I am working to block the update on the new phone.

    Best advice of all! I’ m a long – time traveller in a 4×4 caravan and all the (offroad) route planning depends on fully working mobil devices. It can be life saving.

    My workaround is now: two identical devices, one of them as backup. So, buy two… ;)

    Nougat is an absolute piece of shiite. Period!!! So far, a SMALL list of what id screwed up with my S7 Edge now:

    – Wi-Fi calling keeps turning off
    – When wi-fi calling is turned on, the quality of calls is shiite!! MY girlfriend has a J7 and uses w-fi calling and everyone can heear her just fine, even trough we’re both in the same house on the same wi-fi network
    – Connecting to Blue Tooth in my car is jacked. The phone connects, but to get the audio trough my car, I need to turn on the speaker on the phone, then turn it off!
    – Phone performance is jittery and stutters
    -Battery drains like crazy
    – Phone rings but takes five seconds for the display to register and show incoming call
    – App settings turn themselves off without me touching them
    – Constantly getting prompted to log into wi-fi networks! Was never prompted prior to this crap upgrade.
    To sum it up: DO NOT UPGRADE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!!!

    Verizon to Google to Samsung where we reset my phone after the update. Lost all pictures after reset – All were supposedly backed up on Google & the cloud account empty.
    No one is accountable for this sloppy quality product. Everyone passes the buck

    My random reboot problem stopped, glad of that. Keyboard is the worst now though, lagging and not detecting swypes. Sometimes it takes me 5 tries just to enter a word.

    This is the worst update ever. Phone drained from 100% to 10% in 90 minutes while barely being used.

    Since this latest update may 09/2017 I now hate my phone
    They took all that was good and replaced it with a boring,not able to individualize,ugly phone. GUESS I WILL HAVE TO GET A NEW PHONE THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SAMSUNG. really bad update and horrible for Samsung lovers. @#@=%#/_ this update and if not reversed then #$@$$& Samsung as well.

      If you don’t like how your phone looks like with Nougat, before buying a new phone you may reconsider to install Marshmallow again. There are plenty of guides online that explain how to do the downgrade from Nougat to Marshmallow.

    I got a request to update 2 days ago on May 10th and it read tavuk on my Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge. I kept getting an error that my SIM card was locked and when I went to the Sprint store they could not fix it the only answer was to do a factory reset. This was even after changing out to a new SIM card. It would either say it was locked and or invalid. Luckily or unluckily I had another issue with a red line going down my LED screen so I was getting a phone switch out anyway but had I not, my phone would be an operable. I am ignoring the request to update on the replacement phone I have. Would be interested if anybody else has had this issue in the last week?

    Dont install Nougat if you dont like only having the choice of incredibly small or incredibly large fonts.
    Dont install nougat if you want your apps, including google calendar to keep working.
    Dont install Nougat unless you like 40% of the google calendar interface occupied by a childish drawing representing the current month which makes it neccesary to truncate the month down to just showing the holidays.
    Dont install Nougat if you mind added clicks for doing common tasks including blocking telemarketer numbers, dialing numbers etc.

    I have two Samsung Galaxy S7s. I have updated both. One seems to operating OK.
    My other one has experienced random power interruptions and rebooting. I have contacted Verizon, Samsung and Geek Squad. They were not able to correct the problem. The Geek Squad tech said that the user forum has shown numerous customers having the same problem. So far Samsung had not acknowledged the problem and has not come up with a bug fix.

    Since nougat update, lost most of my GALLERY, and when turning on my Note 5, it’s on camera, and supposed to see notifications, then swipe, then fingerprint or password to get past lock screen. On notifications, can barely see anything. So small, vague, light, definitely not acceptable. I spent hours with AT&T Tech support on REMOTE support. WASTED SO MUCH TIME, WHICH IS VITAL.

    Updated patches are needed for Android for better security. The only way to get that is by updating the firmware. So it’s a no brainer.
