Don't Wait for Face Unlock

At one point it looked like the Galaxy S10 would mimic one of the iPhone X's top features. Now, according to several reports, those dreams are dead.

A report from Korean news site The Bell claims Israeli startup Mantis Vision and camera module firm Namuga are working on 3D sensing camera technology for the Galaxy S10. A more recent report from the same source claims Samsung is still planning to use the technology with the next Galaxy S flagship.

If true, the Galaxy S10 could potentially come with 3D facial recognition similar to the Face ID solution Apple implemented on the iPhone X back in 2017. Samsung's Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ feature 2D facial recognition and an iris scanner.

If you're unfamiliar with Face ID, you can get a feel for the technology in the walkthrough video below.

While it does indeed look like Samsung is working to deliver a 3D sensor, it apparently won't be used for facial authentication.

Instead, according to The Bell, the Galaxy S10's 3D sensor will be placed on the back panel and will be used for Augmented Reality (AR). Android phones like the Asus ZenFone AR already utilize this technology.

Korean site ETNews claims Samsung will get rid of the iris scanner that first appeared on the Galaxy Note 7. None of the Galaxy S10 models will have one on board it seems.

This presumably will allow Samsung to stretch the Galaxy S10's display a little bit further, something that will  appeal to those of you that want a big display.

” Not being a philosopher or even a physicist, I’m not planning to delve into that subject on the net, but I can let you know that, coming from a marketing standpoint, the internet marketing effect towards the business stated previously was obviously a big fat zero. Try to research before you leave your house for the lifestyle with the location. Dabangg can be a buzz today, tomorrow it’ll be supervened with a Dhobighat or something else.

Samsung has duties. 2019 is presented to them as a challenge and opportunity in equal parts. After insisting two generations with the design in its Galaxy S line, this year it is a face wash that manages to attract the eyes again. In 2018, most already embraced the ‘all screen’, minimizing the presence of edges. And it is something that will not do more than accentuate in 2019.
