There are some great reasons to install Android Pie on your Samsung Galaxy A9, Galaxy A8, Galaxy A7, or Galaxy A6 right away. There are also some great reasons to hold off.

The company started its Android Pie roll out with the Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S8, and Galaxy Note 8, but the operating system has moved onto mid-range models like the Galaxy A series.

Samsung’s currently pushing Android Pie to the Galaxy A9 (2018), Galaxy A8 (2018), Galaxy A7 (2018), and Galaxy A6+ in select regions. We expect more Galaxy A Pie updates to roll out in April and May as the update expands to other devices and other parts of the world.

If you tried the Galaxy A Pie beta or if you’ve simply been following along, you know that the Galaxy A Android Pie update is a huge upgrade. The Galaxy A9, A8, A7, and A6 Pie updates all come with lengthy change logs that include Samsung’s new One UI.

Samsung’s One UI looks a lot different than the previous UI, Samsung Experience, and it includes some useful features like Night Mode.

The Galaxy A Pie update also brings new emojis, a floating keyboard, improvements to Always On Display, security updates, and a whole lot more. It’s an exciting upgrade and many of you will, and probably should, install it right away. Some of you won’t.

The Android Pie update went through a beta, but issues have slipped into the final release. We’re hearing about bugs and performance issues as we push away from the release date.

Some of these issues carried over from Android Oreo, some of them are brand new. Some of these issues are small, others are much bigger. If you’re having an excellent go on Android Oreo, you should be careful with Pie.

With that in mind, allow us to take you through the best reasons to upgrade your Galaxy A9, Galaxy A8, Galaxy A7, or Galaxy A6 to Android Pie and the best reasons to hold out for a few more hours, days, or weeks.

Android Pie also brings additional security enhancements including a feature called Lockdown Mode.

With Lockdown Mode enabled you can quickly disable Smart Lock, biometrics unlock, and notifications on the device's lock screen so that other people can't pry their way into your phone.

Once you get the Android Pie update on board, you should find the Lockdown Mode toggle in your device's Settings.
