Install If You Want These Smaller Changes

The Galaxy S8's Android Pie update also comes with a collection of smaller features, some of which could be useful in your day-to-day use.

The company's made several changes to Notifications and the list includes image thumbnails in message notifications and the ability to  reply to messages directly in the notification panel.

Other additions include:

  • Phone: You can now sort your call history by incoming and outgoing calls.
  • Phone: Your call history can include up to 2000 entries (increased from 500 entries).
  • Contacts: The new drawer menu makes it easier to manage contacts from various accounts.
  • Settings: Menus have been reorganized to make settings easier to find.
  • Gallery: Photo Editor Pro's editing tools have been added to Gallery so you can make all your edits and touchups without leaving the app.
  • My Files: The new storage analysis tool has been added to help you monitor your storage usage and save space.
  • My Files: You can now show or hide items on the My Files Home screen.
  • Samsung Health: Your daily step count will be shown in the notification panel.
  • Access Kids Home on the quick panel.
  • HEIF images are now supported.

If any of these interest you, think about downloading Android Pie.

It’s like I have a whole different phone now. There are features missing croom the S9. I used to love my phone, now it sucks w/this update. I can’t multitask with two different screens on at the same time. One of the reasons I liked my phone. Maybe an iPhone will do this.

This update sucks. Like my android how it was. First, I could schedule text messages which helped remind me to do things for myself and people. Second, I could place a background photo on my text screen something an iPhone doesn’t allow. Third, the entire screen when you open up messages is covered with an envelope saying if you have unread messages or not. Just put the phone back to how it was. The apps look like technology hasn’t caught up. I cannot have two screens open at once. If Samsung is looking to make their android like an iPhone I might as well have the real deal and not the off brand iPhone.

Agreed, but you can still schedule messages. It’s under the +

        Agree with Tor!
        @ Kristy – Where is the ‘+’ ?

After updating to Pie and the latest Bixby version, There is NO SETTINGS->Advance settings-> Bixby button to remap! Why do they do this? How can I this Bixby thing off my phone and use the button for an app I like and want to use?

That’s not the half of it! I made the mistake of updating to Pie on my S9 and now the Pro mode in Video recording is GONE! I am livid! I use this regularly.
So, if you use Video and you make use of the Pro mode, which is still available in the photo mode by the way, then DON’T DO IT!
I’m currently fighting with Samsung to either put it right NOW or replace my phone with Oreo as standard. Then I just won’t upgrade.
They can’t do this. Multi-national/multi-billion dollar industry can’t just ride rough shod over us.

Um, no… Just about every un-sponsored post I’ve seen on this update addresses the MANY issues and overwhelmingly negative reception to this update. Mine just updated automatically last night and I’ve spent all morning putting it back to how it was.

For those in need, here’s how to do it:

I cannot connect my Note 8 to my car screen via USB anymore, only Bluetooth! Praying for update soon to rectify this!

DO NOT LIKE THIS UPDATE! I’m having trouble setting different tones for the different notifications. I don’t like the cartoonish icons. App icons are moved around and are different colors than they were before. My S8 was easy to navigate before. Not so much now.

Why don’t you simply tell us how PREVENT TO UPDATE to this rotten pie instead of preparing people to eat šit??

From what I’ve heard Pie on the S8 is like Marshmallow was on the S4. I kept KitKat on the S4 while most that updated said it never worked quite right again. Just got the notification-I’m waiting.

Yet another extremely negative post about android 9 downgrade. That what the latest android software update is, a downgrade. I hate it! All the best parts of android that I used are no longer available. Previous posters have mentioned them. Whose idiotic idea was this? That person should be fired! What the hell is Samsung trying to do? Kill their business? They’re off to,a good start!

Another unhappy customer! I got rotten pie upgrade the night before my vacation. I missed many, many important pictures. My battery life is now terrible.

    Time to switch to Apple!

Enabling developer mode helped a few of the bugs, but my major issue is that tethering doesn’t work anymore! 8 worked great USB tethering to my chromebook, now I have to use my phone as a hotspot, and there is a huge slowdown doing this!

I hate the update on my Samsung s8+. Is Samsung even listening? What a bunch of crap, nothing works like it used to and the update just made things harder to use. Split screen is gone. Photo gallery just sucks all the way round. You can’t arrange albums in any order unless you go in and move each album one by one. If it scrolls to far up the album disappears. It can be found but this is so inconvenient and just stupid. I don’t like or want my screen to decide when to darken. I don’t like that the screen rotates without my doing it. But will it rotate back from landscape? Oh, no it won’t, then I have to go into settings to change it back to portrait. Battery life was never a problem before the update. Now it is. I think someone in elementary school wrote the code for this update.
It’s just a shame that good features are now gone, and we are left with an expensive phone that doesn’t do what we paid for.
Thanks for the downgrade, Samsung, you lost a loyal customer in me.

They aren’t listening and they don’t care. If they did, we would have had the option to uninstall Bixby or at least disable it years ago.

With the new icons, my business phone now looks like it belongs to a 12 year old girl. And don’t give me that line of BS about “you can go to the themes menu and download new icons”. I don’t have a problem with them adding themes. I DO have a problem with them forcing a theme from a $10 prepaid phone on us. Add the feature and let us decide. Instead, I’m forced to spend time (not money, I refuse to give them another dime for this BS) hunting for a theme that wasn’t designed by a middle school girl. They did this to force everyone to go into their new theme store where the hope is we will spend money to not have our eyes offended every time we unlock our phones.

This update is horrible! I had ZERO ISSUES prior to this update now my s8 freezes randomly and won’t come back online for half an hour!

I hate the update it locks me out of my own settings or cutting on wifi. It also won’t let me cut on my mobile hotspot while connected to wifi like I was doing before the update why would you change that. Tf
