Install Android 8.1 If You're Having Android O Problems

Some with the Pixel and Pixel XL are having problems on Android 8.0 Oreo. In fact, a lot of problems started from Oreo. Screens are staying on while charging, and Bluetooth is unstable for many. It drops out or simply won't connect to devices at all. We're still seeing complaints about fingerprint scanners, random reboots, sound issues while recording, and other small problems. There is a wide range of issues being discussed.

We can't guarantee Android 8.1 will fix any bugs from the original release, but it is the latest software for the Pixel. Google made tons of changes to Bluetooth, and many reports suggest the Bluetooth issues are finally gone. That alone is worth it for many.

Expect improvements in most areas and new bugs at the same time. We heard Bluetooth finally received a fix, and so far it's working fine on all of our devices. Android 8.1 also fixed the audio issues while recording video on the new Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Additionally, so far, it looks like this update fixed the slow charging on the bigger Pixel 2 XL.

Either way, give it a try and see if some of your problems disappear. It has the latest Bluetooth stacks and should improve performance, battery life, and more.

The software is getting more and more irritating to use with every update. Preferences disappear, menus inside menus that link to other menus that loop right back to the first, location detection snoops every place I go, ads and feed items OBVIOUSLY generated from unauthorized use of the microphone or listening on phone calls… After I finish paying for this $700 handcuff, I’m done. Google is going too far for investors, and software geeks have the wool over their eyes.
