Don't Install 8.1 If You Aren't Prepared

While most of you will want to install Android 8.1 right away, many will benefit from waiting a few weeks. Why? Because in a few weeks we'll know about any potential issues, and some of the early installation problems should be fixed. One example is those on the developer preview beta can't manually install Android 8.1 because the file is older than the developer preview. You'll get an error while trying to flash the update files.

If you aren't prepared for an update, wait until you are. It's as simple as that.

We've put together a game plan that will take you through the steps we take before we install Android software on our phones and tablets. You don't need to follow every single step but at the very least you'll want to make sure all of your important files are properly backed up before you make the move to any new software version. The update doesn't erase any information, but you never know when a problem might surface. Always back up important files ahead of time.

The software is getting more and more irritating to use with every update. Preferences disappear, menus inside menus that link to other menus that loop right back to the first, location detection snoops every place I go, ads and feed items OBVIOUSLY generated from unauthorized use of the microphone or listening on phone calls… After I finish paying for this $700 handcuff, I’m done. Google is going too far for investors, and software geeks have the wool over their eyes.
