5 Best Android Smartphones [January, 2014]

Published

on

While many consumers have their eyes focused on rumored 2014 flagships including the rumored HTC Two (M8) and Samsung Galaxy S5, many others will be looking for a smartphone today, tomorrow, or at some point in the next few weeks. And while we likely won’t see any major flagships touch down this month, there are still some solid devices on the market for those looking during the month of January.

Last year was a fantastic year for smartphone enthusiasts and consumers who were in the market for a new device. We saw companies put forth some of their best efforts yet. We saw HTC release the HTC One, arguably one of the greatest smartphones ever made. We saw Samsung release the Galaxy S4, the successor to the Galaxy S3 and a worthy one at that. And late in the year we saw Google unleash its Nexus 4 successor, the Nexus 5 from LG. Of course these, while standouts, were only the tip of the iceberg.

We have finally rung in the new year which means that new devices are on the way, devices that will replace these juggernauts of yesteryear. Unfortunately, we aren’t expecting those replacements to arrive in the month of January.

Typically, we’ll see a few announcements at CES in Las Vegas but even then, those devices tend to arrive in the months after their announcement, the Sony Xperia Z being a prime example of this. What this means is that we expect January to offer a ton of rumors but not much new and that means that users will be stuck with last year’s crop. And that’s not such a bad thing. As we’ve pointed out, the best from last year’s yield are among the best smartphones of all time.

So, for those that can’t wait for the Galaxy S5’s and HTC Two’s of the world, here are the devices we consider to be the five best Android smartphones for the month of January, 2014.

Nexus 5

Nexus 5

Google's Nexus 5 should be near the top of any Android smartphone shoppers list. Not only does it feature an extremely cheap unlocked price tag but it also comes with a ton of bells and whistles.

The Nexus 5 sports a beautiful 5-inch 1080p display, speedy Qualcomm 800 quad-core processor, 16GB or 32GB of storage, vanilla Android 4.4 KitKat software, quick updates from Google, and a camera that was recently upgraded thanks to Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

It's a device that is built to last and it's a smartphone that we consider to be among the best Android smartphones on the market for the month of January.

Where’s the Droid Maxx? To me that’s the second best smartphone behind ‘Da Beast’ Samsung Galaxy note 3, the HTC One is so darn overrated.
