5 Best T-Mobile Smartphones [January, 2014]

Published

on

Those in the market for a new smartphone on T-Mobile are going to find themselves starring at a fantastic lineup of devices including a brand new flagship from Sony in the Xperia Z1S. While T-Mobile’s smartphone options are fantastic, it’s also a lineup that has the potential to overwhelming for some consumers, particularly those that aren’t in tune with the smartphone world.

Prior to the start of 2013, T-Mobile had a bunch of great smartphones and some solid, cheap data plans. It did not, however have a 4G LTE network and it did not officially carry Apple’s iPhone. Both of those contributed to a mass exodus from a carrier used to playing third fiddle behind the likes of AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

Things changed in 2013. T-Mobile not only launched its 4G LTE network, it also started to offer the iPhone and the iPad. The carrier also shifted from on-contract data plans to off-contract data plans, something that it has reinforced with its UnCarrier initiatives, the latest coming at CES 2014 in Las Vegas.

T-Mobile has now positioned itself as an attractive option for those coming off contract, disenchanted with carriers like AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless. And while the new data plans, perks, iPhone, and 4G LTE network are all attractive, it also helps that T-Mobile has bolstered its smartphone lineup with top notch devices.

The carrier has matched the bigger carriers, phone for phone, which had led to a solid selection of devices in the new year. In other words, those looking for a new smartphone in the month of January aren’t going to find a shortage of options. That’s both good and bad. Good because choice is always good, bad because it makes choosing a device an even harder task.

We want to make things easier on those in the hunt and here, we offer up the devices we consider to be the five best T-Mobile smartphones for the month of January, 2014.

iPhone 5s

Apple's iPhone 5s, now months old, remains one of the top smartphone options on T-Mobile thanks to its all-around performance. It features a quality design, camera, Retina Display, A7 64-bit processor, and it comes with an almost guaranteed three years of software updates. When it comes to software updates, Apple is the best in the business.

While the iPhone 5s is a little more expensive than some of the other phones on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network, for many, it's going to be worth any penny. It's a top performance and one that consumers should certainly have their eye on in the new year.
