5 Best Verizon Smartphones [January, 2014]

The new year is here and that means that new smartphones are on their way. Unfortunately though, those new smartphones, phones like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6 are likely months away from hitting shelves. That means that consumers looking to buy a new smartphone are, for the moment, stuck with the phones from last year. Thankfully, that’s not a bad thing, particularly for those looking to buy on Verizon.

Last year was fairly kind to Verizon and its customers. The carrier completed its 4G LTE roll out and the network is now live in hundreds and hundreds of markets around the United States. It remains the biggest 4G LTE network though AT&T has certainly been gaining ground in recent months.

The carrier also started offering Verizon Edge, a way for customers to upgrade to Verizon’s latest and greatest devices as soon as possible. The initiative was meant to counter T-Mobile which went completely off-contract with its data plans in 2013. While contracts will still be appealing due to their subsidized device pricing, Edge is certainly something enthusiasts and average users alike will want to take a look at.

It wasn’t all network deployments and data plans though. Verizon also released a number of fantastic smartphones to accommodate their customers and pair up with said 4G LTE network and said data plans. Phones like the Galaxy S4, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, LG G2, and more made their way to Verizon’s 4G LTE network, tempting buyers already on Verizon and those looking for a new home. Those devices remain the cream of the crop in 2014.

Unsurprisingly, January has been fairly slow as far as smartphone releases are concerned. It typically is. And what this means is that those looking for a Verizon smartphone this month will find some familiar faces.

There is a new crop of devices on the way but for the moment, consumers will have to deal with last year’s yield. And for those that want a new Verizon smartphone now, here are the devices we consider to be the five best Verizon smartphones for the month of January, 2014.

iPhone 5s

The iPhone 5s remains one of the top smarphones on the market and it will remain one of the top phones at Verizon up until Apple's iPhone 6 arrives later in the year.

Apple's flagship features a solid display, design, 64-bit processor, iOS 7 software, camera, and more making it one of the most complete smartphones on the planet. It's going to cost a little more than its rivals but Apple boasts three years of software support as opposed to the 18 months offered by its Android competitors.

This is a device that should be near the top of every shoppers shopping list.

The note 3 & Droid Maxx are better than all those phones you mentioned.
