“Is the iPhone 6 worth buying?” This is a question we still hear quite often in 2015 as users weigh the benefits of buying an iPhone 6 or waiting for the iPhone 6s release date to upgrade. We’ll take a look at 5 reasons the current iPhone is still worth it in 2015 and why the upgrade makes sense for many shoppers.

Apple released the iPhone 6 in September 2014 along with the iPhone 6 Plus that includes a bigger screen, battery and added camera feature. This marked the latest major jump in screen size for the iPhone and it brought a lot of interest from iPhone and Android users.

The current model is almost nine months month old, which is a long time for technology, but the iPhone ages better than many gadgets. The most important iPhone 6s rumors do point to a collection of exciting upgrades later this year, but that doesn’t mean the iPhone 6 is no longer worth buying.

With months to go before a new iPhone arrives in 2015, we pause to look at why the iPhone 6 is still a great smartphone that can meet the needs of many shoppers.

Here are five reasons we still recommend the iPhone 6 to many of our friends and family, even with an iPhone 6s release date looming in the coming months.

iPhone 6 is a Great Phone

The iPhone 6 is still an amazing phone, nine months later.

Even as the iPhone 6 approaches a year old it is still a very great phone that offers one of the best experiences in a smartphone, a sleek design, access to apps before Android phones and great performance.

Apple fixed many of the original iPhone 6 problems in the latest iOS 8 updates and added new features and fixes with iOS 8.3. The device also gets a new iOS 8.4 update in June that adds a new Apple Music subscription service.

The iPhone 6 also supports Apple Pay, which allows users to make payments at many stores by tapping the iPhone to the credit card reader.

Even with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4 available, many of the Gotta Be Mobile staff still rely on the iPhone 6 as their primary smartphone.

It’s no surprise that the latest iPhone ads focus on what the camera can create. The Shot with iPhone ads are obviously highlighting the best looking photos and videos, but you don’t need to be a professional to take great looking photos with your iPhone.

The 8MP camera in the iPhone 6 consistently delivers some of the best looking photos from a smartphone, and in some cases people will think you are using a point and shoot or something more expensive.

You can use our iPhone 6 camera tips to take better photos without the need to buy accessories or add-ons.

iPhone 6 is About to Get Better with iOS 9

The iPhone 6 gains many new features with the iOS 9 update this fall, and this is just the first major upgrade coming to the device.

One of the most interesting upgrades coming with iOS 9 for the iPhone 6 is one hour of added battery life. This isn’t an added hour of the iPhone sitting in your pocket, but an actual hour of use. There is also a low power mode that can stretch an added 3 hours of limited use out of the iPhone.

Check out the slides below to see more about what iOS 9 adds to the iPhone 6. The iOS 9 release date is planned for fall 2015. This will likely come right before the iPhone 6s release date.

The image above shows that the iOS 9 home screen looks very much like the one on iOS 8. This is not surprising, but you will notice one major change to this screen.

The new iOS 9 font on the home page carries over through settings and apps. It's surprising how much the look of the system can change with a small tweak to a new font.

From the home screen you can now swipe left to a new search screen, and you can still swipe down to Spotlight from any of the home screen pages.

When you upgrade you will also see options to add iCloud Drive to your home screen.

Apple adds two new default iOS 9 apps that you cannot delete. Find iPhone and Find Friends apps now come with the iPhone by default. You can hide them in a folder, but you cannot delete the apps. The Find My iPhone app is a very good addition, while Find My Friends is still not as widely used.

Long Term Support

With iOS 9 Apple extends support to older iPhones up to four years after release. If you are the type of shopper who keeps a new phone well past the two-year mark you can count on three to four years of major updates for the iPhone 6.

Apple will eventually need to strip some features out of the iPhone 6 updates as it ages, but with the iPhone 4s iOS 9 update Apple sets a precedent for delivering upgrades for longer than before.

Plentiful iPhone 6 Cases and Accessories

Another reason the iPhone 6 is still a good buy is that there are plenty of great iPhone 6 accessories and iPhone 6 cases. After nine months on the market there is no shortage of excellent options for owners to buy that will expand the use of the iPhone or protect it.

In addition to all the options available now, we typically see an iPhone s design that doesn’t change much. If Apple sticks to this plan, the iPhone 6s release will very likely add to the number and variety of iPhone 6 cases and iPhone 6 accessories. Below are the best cases you can buy in 2015.

Apple's official case is thin and light, adding barely any weight or thickness to the iPhone 6. This is why Gotta Be Mobile Editor Adam Mills decided this is the best iPhone 6 case for his device, even though he normally does not use cases.

The official leather iPhone 6 case from Apple is $45 at Apple and other retailers.

iPhones are not like Android phones. Even if a new one was coming out soon (it’s not, new iPhones — including the “s” phones — come out once a year), last year’s phone would not feel outdated at all. I’ve got an iPhone 5s and I didn’t upgrade to the 6 because I didn’t feel any need to do so. It’s still perfectly fine.

Good android phones are like that too. There are plenty of people still using nexus5’s and og moto x’s, for that very same reason.
