5 Reasons to Start Waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Published

on

As we move deeper into the year and closer to some of the year’s new smartphones, consumers in the hunt for a new device have a difficult decision to make: Buy a device that’s currently on the market for wait for rumored devices to arrive. One device that we think is worth potentially waiting for is the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and here, we take a look at some reasons why you might want to wait for Samsung’s Next Big Thing.

Later this year, many smartphone users will be coming off contract, looking to upgrade. First, it will be Galaxy S3 owners that come off-contract. Next, it will be iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 users potentially looking to upgrade from their current device. Those are obviously just a few examples but they are a few of the biggest.

iPhone 5, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 users will have no shortage of smartphone options later this year. There are plenty of big name devices currently out on shelves and there are plenty of devices yet to come. One of those devices is the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Samsung’s all but confirmed Galaxy Note 3 successor and a device that could potentially be one of the best smartphones of the year.

In the past few weeks, as Galaxy Note 4 rumors have started to heat up, we’ve heard from many friends, family and readers who are curious about Samsung’s Next Big Thing. Many of them have asked one question in particular:

“Do you think the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is going to be worth waiting for?”

Unfortunately, we can’t offer a definitive answer because every situation is going to be different. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is also a rumored smartphone.

What we can do though is offer some reasons why you might want to think about waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Here are five of those reasons.

You’re Not in a Rush

After the LG G3 arrives next week, we should find ourselves in a bit of a lull. Sure, we’ll see devices like the Galaxy S5 Active arrive on shelves but we aren’t expecting any top tier devices to arrive during the summer. That goes for the iPhone 6, the next Google-branded smartphone, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 rumors point to an arrival in early September which means that a release could potentially come in late September or early October. Last year’s Galaxy Note 3 took a similar route to shelves. Samsung executives also confirmed the Galaxy Note 4 launch for the fall, so it’s clear that we still have a bit of a wait on our hands.

The point is this. If your smartphone is in relatively good condition and you’re remotely interested in buying the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, it might be worth waiting the three months. Three months isn’t so bad considering that Samsung only releases one flagship Galaxy Note per year.

Need For the Biggest & Best Smartphone Display

We still don’t know the exact specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4’s display but rumors point to a display size of 5.7-inches with QHD resolution. If that’s true, it means that the Galaxy Note 4 could retain the same size as the Galaxy Note 3 but offer sharper looking content like movies and games. QHD is a step up from the full HD resolution found on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and other high-end smartphones including the Galaxy S5.

QHD isn’t a given but it’s likely. Samsung is rumored to be putting a QHD display on a Galaxy S5 variant later this year. The iPhone 6 is expected to land with at least a 4.7-inch display and perhaps a 5.5-inch display as well, something that will put pressure on Samsung to make some noticeable changes to its Galaxy Note. If that wasn’t enough, the LG G3 is expected to have a 5.5-inch QHD display. LG is one of Samsung’s biggest rivals in Korea.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 display is brighter than the bigger Galaxy Note 3 display.

At the very least, the Galaxy Note 4 should come with a screen that’s comparable to the Galaxy S5’s, a display that DisplayMate considers the best smartphone display on the market.

Samsung’s devices come with some of the best displays in the business so if a massive display for gaming, watching content, doing work, or browsing the web sounds at all enticing, it might be worth waiting the three months or so for the Galaxy Note 4’s arrival.

You Need Extra Firepower

We highly recommend taking a look at some of the big screen smartphones on the market right now. Devices like the Galaxy Note 3 and LG G Pro 2 should be considered before deciding to wait for the Galaxy Note 4.

That said, if you come away unimpressed by the designs, the processing performance, the battery life, or the camera in particular, you might want to consider waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. It will likely offer some significant firepower in those areas.

Galaxy Note 3

Samsung, like many other manufacturers, always offers hardware upgrades on its yearly smartphone releases. In the case of Samsung, it always switches up the Galaxy Note design, processor, and battery. It also typically swaps out the camera sensor for something better and improves the overall experience with the device’s bundled S Pen stylus. Rumors point to more of the same with the Galaxy Note 4.

The horsepower that a device like the Galaxy Note 3 delivers will be enough for most people but if you find yourself unimpressed with its 13MP camera, its faux plastic design, or its S Pen functionality, you might want to consider waiting for the next version. It will likely trump it in just about every way.

You Plan On Keeping It For Awhile

If three months sounds like a long time, consider this. By waiting three months, you set yourself up much better for the future and here’s why.

Take for example the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, a device that prospective Galaxy Note 4 buyers are probably thinking about buying. The Galaxy Note 3 is now eight months old. Google recommends 18 months of Android software support, Samsung typically offers 24 months of support though that’s not a given.

The Galaxy S5 buttons offer faster access to Google Now and multitasking.

What this means is that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could potentially have just 10 months of software support left. That’s not a lot. Even if Samsung decides to stretch it out, it’s in far worse shape than a new device like the Galaxy Note 4.

We should also mention that Samsung’s older devices typically get a diluted version of the company’s TouchWiz software. The Galaxy Note 4 will almost certainly debut with new software on board but its entire feature set will probably never come to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy Note 2. Apple does something similar with its iPhone and iOS.

By waiting three months, you’ll likely gain access to a device with better software features and a longer, healthier life when it comes to software updates.

You’re Not on a Budget

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 price has dropped dramatically since its arrival last September. The Galaxy S5, which arrived only a few weeks ago, is very cheap on retailers like Amazon. If saving money is your top priority, these devices are probably extremely appealing. But if money isn’t an option, you might want to think about waiting.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy Note 3 - Cameras

There is a very good chance that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will cost $299.99 on-contract or upwards of $600 without a contract. Big screens and S Pen’s don’t come cheap.

The extra dollars mean extra benefits though and those that are concerned with budget may simply want to wait for the three months to roll by instead of settling on one of the current options due to price.

I’ll be holding off until the Note 5 hits. My Note 3 has been the best phone I’ve ever had, hands down, and I’ll be staying with the family into perpetuity.

Fit and finish of the samsung is pretty low. Not just the hardware. I find myself spending a LOT of time dealing with weird Samsung specific errors.

The Note 4 needs to have the following to attract me

    1) Dual SIM if is unlocked
    2) Snap Dragon 810
    3) 4GB RAM
    5) 64 GB on board
    5) 128 GB Expansion Memory
    6) Optical Image Stability Camera
    7) IP 67 or better
    8) 4G
    9) Better Quality build – Better than the purported S5 Prime
    10) 4000 mAh battery or more
    11) QHD is ok but the screen must be far better than a sapphire screen and stronger
    12) Latest version of Android if Tizen I am out of Samsung
    13) Micro SD
    14) A better flip cover

Samsung must make it the best phone in the market – If must be the Beast

I have no experience with Android devices but being a iPhone 5 owner, I am looking forward to holding the Galaxy Note 4 in my hands (the LG G3 too).
