Apple is reportedly working on a new iPad Air. With a release likely in the works, and a release on the horizon, we want to guide you through the best reasons to, and not to, wait for the iPad Air 4.

iPad Air 4 Rumors

While a lot of rumors have centered around Apple’s high-end iPad Pro and the iPad mini 6, Apple also has an iPad Air 4 in development.

The rumors come from a variety of sources including an anonymous source on Twitter who has leaked accurate information about unreleased Apple products in the past.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Debby Wu also claim Apple is planning to release a fourth-generation iPad Air. They have a solid track record when it comes to unreleased Apple products.

A report from Japanese blog Mac Otakara, citing information gleaned from a Chinese supplier, suggests that Apple will remove the Lightning port from the device and replace it with USB-C.

The company shifted to using USB-C on the iPad Pro in 2018 and Mac Otakara claims the new iPad Air will be based on the 11-inch iPad Pro.

Hit-or-miss publication Digitimes claims Apple will launch a new iPad Air in the second half of 2020. The site also says the new iPad Air will have a larger 10.8-inch display. There’s also chatter about a 11-inch display.

A 10.8-inch iPad is reportedly in development behind the scenes, but it’s unclear if it’s an iPad Air or whether it’s a basic version of the iPad.

The reliable Ming-Chi Kuo also believes a 10.8-inch iPad will launch in the second half of 2020, but he doesn’t specify the model type.

Apple recently registered seven iPads at the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), something we often see before new hardware is released. The iPads are labeled with model numbers A2270, A2316, A2072, A2324, A2325, A2428, and A2429.

It’s unclear what devices these refer to, but they have only fueled the fire as we head into September.

Apple’s also confirmed an online event for September 15th and there’s speculation that it will serve as the launch pad for the new iPad Air.

Again, Digitimes believes the new iPad Air will launch in the second half of 202o. Kuo thinks a new 10.8-inch iPad will land in the second half of the year, but he hasn't given the device a name.

Bloomberg claims Apple will release the iPad Air 4 sometime this fall. And with a September 15th launch event now confirmed, and the iPhone 12 launch reportedly happening in October, there's a good chance the September event revolves around the Apple Watch and iPad.

With a potential launch coming this week, now would be a great time to sit back and wait for Apple's announcements.
