You Want Wireless Charging
If you want to charge your iPhone without having to plug in a Lightning cable, you'll need an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X. Wireless charging has been available on Android phones for several years but it's finally made its way to the iPhone. Now before you get too excited note that this isn't true wireless charging. Your phone won't be able to charge without an accessory. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus both come with the “Qi” wireless charging standard. This technology will allow you to charge your phone on Qi wireless charging mat. The mat will require power which means it needs to be plugged in. Now you see what we mean. That said, this type of wireless charging is still extremely convenient. You won't need to plug anything into the phone and you'll be able to quickly charge your phone on the wireless chargers you might see in airports and coffee shops. It might also help you cut down on cord clutter. They are literally thousands of supported accessories and chargers currently on the market and Apple plans to release its own AirPower charging mat in 2018.
