5 Reasons You Need the iPhone 8 and 3 Reasons You Don’t

You Don't Need It If You Already Own the iPhone 7

Apple's calling them the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus but these devices are actually more like the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.

In any other year these would be called the iPhone 7s because they offer incremental upgrades from last year's models. Here's one example.

On its iPhone 8 spec sheet, Apple says the iPhone 8 battery "lasts about the same as iPhone 7." It also says iPhone 8 Plus battery life "lasts about the same as iPhone 7 Plus." The same applies to the other specs.

The iPhone 8's camera will be good but it probably won't blow the iPhone 7's out of the water. The upgraded Retina Display is nice but average users won't care. The iPhone 7's display is perfectly fine for gaming and other activities.

As we've mentioned, the people who truly need the upgrade are those coming from phones from three, four years ago. The iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, and maybe even the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. Those people will get the most out of an upgrade to an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus.

The plethora of iPhone 7 trade in deals will take some of the sting out of upgrading after a year, but with iOS 11 on the iPhone 7 it's not as much a need as a want.
