7 Things to Know About the iPhone 6 iOS 11.4.1 Update

Published

on

The iPhone 6 iOS 11.4.1 update is a minor update that could help, or hurt, your iPhone 6’s performance.

Apple’s latest software update is much smaller than its predecessor (iOS 11.4) and it delivers a mix of fixes and security features.

If you’re currently running iOS 11.4 on your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, you get the shortest iOS 11.4.1 change log and download size.

If you still haven’t upgraded from iOS 10 or if you’re currently running an older version of iOS 11, your version of the iPhone 6’s iOS 11.4.1 update will be much bigger thanks to the changes from iOS updates you missed.

The iPhone 6 iOS 11.4.1 update is performing well in many key areas though we’ve run into some minor issues during our time with Apple’s latest, and perhaps final, iOS 11 upgrade.

Our fellow iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users are complaining about a variety of issues including abnormal battery drain, issues with Bluetooth, and annoying problems with various applications. We haven’t seen any of those issues yet, but we’ve noticed lag across the UI.

Our guide to the iPhone 6 iOS 11.4.1 update goes over these problems and provides some potential fixes to those in need. It also highlights the changes on board iOS 11.4.1 and gives you a look ahead at what’s next for the iPhone 6 and iOS. We’ve also got information about the iOS 11.4.1 downgrade.

We’ve been using the iOS 11.4.1 update on the iPhone 6 for several days and we want to start with a quick review of its performance on the 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

Our impressions will take you through some quick thoughts about battery life, connectivity, and overall speed.

Before we relay our impressions, a few notes about the download and installation process.

The iPhone 6 iOS 11.4.1 update is a sizable download. It's several hundred megabytes if you're moving from iOS 11.4 and it will take you a couple of minutes to download it.

The installation process will take a bit longer and took right around seven minutes on our iPhone 6. Exact timing will vary from person-to-person, device-to-device.

If you're installing iOS 11 for the first time, or if you're moving up from an older version of iOS 11, your iOS 11.4.1 download and installation will take a lot longer.

For more on the iOS 11.4.1 download time and installation, take a look at our roundup

The iPhone 6 is getting older, but our device continues to hold up fairly well as we push toward the release of iOS 12.

The iPhone 6 model in our possession is holding a solid charge with iOS 11.4.1 on board. We haven't noticed any abnormal battery drain during our stay on the software.

Connectivity (Bluetooth, cellular data, and Wi-Fi) is strong. We've successfully connected the device to Bluetooth devices (headsets and speakers) and several routers including eero mesh Wi-Fi.

App performance remains steady. We haven't seen frequent crashes or any catastrophic issues with our core applications which include Slack, Asana, Spotify, Chrome, and Gmail.

Random reboots have been a problem on our iPhone 6, but we haven't noticed any while using the iOS 11.4.1 update.

Lag was an issue for us on iOS 11.4 and it's still an issue on iOS 11.4.1. Animations are still choppy and we continue to see keyboard lag when sending texts via Messages.

We've also noticed slowdown when pulling up Control Center from the bottom of the display and when pulling Notification Center down from the top of the display.

While there's certainly potential for problems, particularly lag, most people should install iOS 11.4.1 due to the changes on board.

That said, if you're feeling leery, take a look at our list of reasons to and not to install the iOS 11.4.1 update on your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

My 6s keeps crashing since installing 11 and 11.02
Apps stop working, phone freezes, phone turns off.
When calling someone It dials but I can’t hear it ring or it disconnects. Or in middle of convo it turns on.
This has been the WORST experience with any apple updates I have ever had! I keep looking for next up grading hoping the patches work. 11.02 has turned my perfectly good phone into a unreliable piece of junk. I’m very upset about this!! Any one have suggestions for me?

I should have learned my lesson by now. This happens every time I update a less-than-new iPhone model. The updates always break my “older” phones so I have to go buy the newest version. No one is surprised by this that that’s F#%ed up! How does Apple get away with this? Anyway, I have the 6, and just did the 11.2.2 update a couple days ago. My issue is basically the same, battery life is mysteriously draining 80% down to 20 out of no where & then shuts off with hardly any time to plug in. Apps are all glitchy, “hey Siri” doesn’t work. It’s really unfair how Apple treats customers. I really should stop buying into their crap but I have invested so much into their apps, music, accessories and what not, it’s hard to break it off.

Installed a few hours ago, already had modal calendar notification effectively almost freeze the device forcing hard reset, and email is dreadfully, noticeably slower now. #$&*!

This article had a positive tone but I consider iOS 11 to be high treason. My mint condition iPhone 6 hardware destroyed by a software upgrade of questionable value. How positively Microsoftian.

I am regretting switching to iOS 11 on my 6 plus (currently running 11.2.0 beta). I can’t think of an app that DOESN’T take 4 to 5 seconds just to open in lag time alone. Want to take a quick picture? Ain’t gonna happen. Texting? Hopefully that text isn’t a rush. Phone call? You better hope it’s not 911 you need. If I downgraded to the last iOS 10 version, not only would I loose a lot of important things since my upgrade, but, Apple would continuously bug me to upgrade my software. I tried that with my iPad. It almost made me late for work a couple of times, because the notification window would pop up and freeze the alarm clock bugging me to install the new iOS. This is almost enough to drive me away from Apple products.

Since I downloaded iOS 11, now on 11.1 my iPhone 6s loses its internet connection when I leave a WiFi area I’m connected to. I then need to switch on airplane mode and off again to connect to my cellular internet and data. Is this a software or hardware problem?

Just did the most stupid thing possible to my 6+, install this piece of crap !

I had a perfectly good 6+ running smooth as silk with 8.something, after the update to 11.something 3 days ago I became a completely useless piece of metal, all lagged, keyboard took ages to show and respond, apps crashing, connectivity erratic, quick battery drain, the whole lot, in fact I was about to go shopping for a new android (note8 or mate10pro were my options) and ditch apple forever, being apple full ecosystem user since 2005 !

To be fair, I have installed, just right now, while writing this, the 11.2.2 update (it couldn’t get any worst) and looks to have improved dramatically, lags gone & back to almost normal responsiveness.

About the battery issue, will see, when started this note had 55%, did the update, opened and closed some apps, wrote some drafts and is down to 49%, fair to say the update took a relatively big time to install.

This updates are absolute Shit Apple simply wants to sabotage older models.
Hope worldwide authorities teaches them a important lesson as they think they are untouchable.

I updated my iPhone 6S to iOS 11.2.6 and now apps don’t work without wifi (Gmail, Safari, Waze, Uber, etc) and Twitter doesn’t open links unless I have wifi. Whatsapp doesn’t send notifications and doesn’t even receive messages unless I open the app.

I tried these steps to go back to 11.2.5 but my iTunes doesn’t give me the option to look for the 11.2.5 file on my PC. So, my phone is basically useless without wifi.

This latest version 11.2.6 really stinks! My 6s+ can’t use my WiFi. Everything is using cellular data. I turn off cellular and all updates stop, even though WiFi is still available. This doesn’t seem to be a problem for my iPad.

I have an iPhone 6 running 10.2.1 (mine) and another running 11.3.1 (Dad’s with auto-update). We are going to get our batteries replaced, but I want to know what is the best iOS to be running for this model phone. Obviously Dad is where he is, but I’m reluctant to let him go further. I don’t really want to upgrade mine. What should I do?
