9 Things to Do Before Installing the Galaxy A Oreo Update

The Android 8.0 Oreo update is pushing out to the Galaxy A3 (2017), Galaxy A5 (2017), and Galaxy A7 (2017) which means those of you still running Android Nougat should start preparing for the upgrade.

It took awhile, but Samsung’s Android Oreo update is finally starting to make significant progress. The update’s pushed out to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 models across the globe, and the software is starting to hit mid-range devices like the Galaxy A series.

As expected, Samsung’s Galaxy A Oreo release is starting off slowly. The update is available for select devices in select regions, but we expect the updates to pickup speed as we push into the month of May.

The Galaxy A Android Oreo update is a big one. The update is between 1-1.5GB and it delivers a nice set of features, enhancements, patches, and fixes. Most Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7 users should download it soon after the download prompt appears.

It’s an exciting upgrade, but there’s always a chance your device’s performance takes a hit after you transition from Nougat to Oreo. Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 users are reporting a number of Oreo issues and we expect some of the same problems to plague the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7.

There’s no way to predict exactly what you’ll run into on Oreo which is why we always recommend doing some prep work before making a move to a new operating system.

Backup Your Files

If you only have time to do one thing before you install Android Oreo on your Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, or Galaxy A7, this is it.

Data loss problems are rare these days, but you'll still want to make sure all of your important files are backed up and stored properly before you move your phone off Android Nougat.

The fastest way to ensure everything on your phone is backed up is by using Samsung's Smart Switch application.

The Smart Switch app backs up your SMS messages, your home screen settings, your Settings, all of your call logs, your apps, your photos and videos, and any documents you store on your phone.

You can also use Samsung Cloud to backup your phone's data. Just remember, you only get a limited amount of free storage.

You can find Samsung Cloud in your device's Settings > Cloud and Accounts. If you don't have a Samsung account you must create one in order to use the service.

If you don't want to use Samsung's solution you can use a third-party app from the Google Play Store. There are a bunch of options, but Super Backup & Restore is one of our favorites.
