Acer Aspire 1820PT pricing unofficially official

Published

on

Word out of Engadget is the Acer Aspire Timeline 1820PT convertible tablet will be priced at 599 Euros. They’re guessing that means it’ll be priced at $599 in the States. Sounds about right, especially since one of our forum members, Elmstrom, already found it priced on Play.com for £599.99 recommended retail.

Still waiting on availability, not to mention official pricing, but $599 seems a pretty solid bet. Engadget has a short hands-on video of the tablet, but if you want real details, check out this review posted in the VR- Zone forum from a user called Denosha, again found by Elmstrom. Terrific info, particularly about the touchscreen, which appears to switch between capacitive for multi-touch and pressure-sensitive resistive for pen. I’d still prefer the control of an active digitizer, but  Denosha’s demo in Windows Journal looks really good. And one can hardly argue with the presumed price.

I wonder how accurate it is with smaller handwriting, like a real paper with small grids for example.

Odly enough Acer seams to have removed there officele speccs on 1820PT and 1820PTZ, but before the difference was that PTZ was ULV Pentium and PT was ULV core2duo.
And the 1820PTZ clealy has all resistiv screen (as seen in the video and in review). I also think that engadget have there information wrong (as always), i am pretty sure that the PTZ use the same screen as the PT. For reference look at this picture they took: https://www.engadget.com/photos/acer-aspire-1820pt-convertible-hands-on/#2763997 to me that looks like the same resitiv stylus as on the PTZ.

Also, the pricing on play.com is 600€ for the PTZ (not core2duo). So would not suprise me if the PT came in at 700€. But if indeed the PT lands at 600€ in shop, that is a great price for an tablet!
(and btw. they have not remove the offical page for them, they are just only on EU acer sites)

Capacitive AND resistive digitizers? Impossible! They both cover the front of the screen and are constructed very differently!

For the record, multi-touch DOES NOT EQUAL capacitive. There are resistive designs on the market that are multi-touch-capable, though they aren’t very common and are more complex than the usual four-wire or five-wire designs.

I still feel the price is a bit high when I can buy used systems with Wacom digitizers for less, though.

What’s the writing going to be like on this compared to an active digitiser? Like on a HP?

Maybe Acer are going to replace these with the 1825 models which are supposed to have capacative screens?
