Acer to Scale Back on Android Smartphone, Tablet Product Line

Published

on

Despite releasing relatively affordable Android tablets and smartphones on the market, like the Iconia Tab A500, Acer has not so far gained any momentum in the market, leading many to speculate that the company may be exiting the mobile market. However, that isn’t true, company founder Stan Shih fires back, saying that the company isn’t abandoning the smartphone and tablet market.

Shih equates the company’s struggles in mobile to that of the notebook market when Acer first entered as a player, saying that in the long-term its investments will pay off.

He said experiencing frustration is an unavoidable the process, just like Acer’s encountering troubles when it entered the notebook market.

The company will be simplifying its product portfolio with fewer models. Additionally, Acer will focus on the high-end market hoping to capitalize on higher-margin products.

Title is VERY misleading = poor writing. You can do better, and should if you want to be taken seriously. Your name is getting associated with the rumor mill, and does nor reflect well on the site… I offer this in the spirit of constructive criticism.
