Alienware 15 & Alienware 17: Thinner, 4K Gaming Friendly

Published

If you are looking for a gaming laptop, Alienware is one of the biggest names in the business and the company is back with a thinner Alienware 17 gaming laptop, plus a resurrection of the Alienware 15 that can deliver a lot of power in a package that is 20% thinner than the previous generation, but are still 1.4-inches thick.

Inside the Alienware 15 and Alienware 17 gamers can choose up to a Intel Core i7 Quad-Core processor and NVIDIA GTX 980m graphics. For more power, gamers can connect to the Alienware Graphics Amplifier.

The new Alienware gaming notebooks are thinner, but they aren’t going to compete with the new Dell XPS 13 that is insanely thin. The notebooks include copper, aluminum and carbon fiber in the design to deliver the same premium feel we’ve experienced on Alienware notebooks in the past.

The Alienware 15 and Alienware 17 notebooks are available today.

The Alienware 15 and Alienware 17 notebooks are available today.

Both Alienware notebooks push the graphics to full power, and with the Intel Core i7 processor option the notebook will automatically over-clock when plugged in to deliver more power.

Gamers can opt for a 4K display on both the Alienware 17 and Alienware 15 notebooks, but to play games at 60FPS at 4K resolution, they will need to drop $299 plus a graphics card on the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, a plug and play part that allows gamers to connect the Alienware notebooks to an external graphics card for more power.

The Alienware Graphics Amplifier can boost the power with a graphics card of your choice and it also lets users upgrade through the life of their notebook, without buying something new.

Dell announced the new Alienware 15 and Alienware 17 are available online at Dell and Alienware starting today. The Alienware 15 starts at $1,200 and the Alienware 17 at $1,500.

you’ve got it backwards… there is no option for 4k display on the 17. However, there is a 4k option on the 15 incher.
I know because I have been researching gaming laptops the last two weeks and just ordered the 15 inch alienware with the 4k touch display.
