Amazon Makes it Easier to Buy Kindle Books on the iPhone

Published

on

kindle-storeHuzzah! Amazon has put up an new web interface for the Kindle Store optimized for the iPhone that should make purchasing Kindle books a little easier. Purchasing books before was a bit of a chore (and in a way still is) and one of the annoying facts about the iPhone’s Kindle app when it recently launched. You couldn’t purchase a book on the iPhone from the Kindle app, instead having to use Safari and make the purchase through the web. The next time you opened up the Kindle app (or your Kindle for that matter) the book would be loaded in.

Well this new web service makes this a bit easier. In the Kindle App if you hit the Get Books button you’re now taken to a new streamlined web UI where you can browse and purchase.

The fun and games of speculation about this have already heated up, and many are pointing out that this double action (Kindle App to Web UI for browsing and shopping) may be away for Amazon to avoid having to shill out 30% of future sales to Apple once iPhone 3.0 rolls around. Apparently the new “purchase within an app” feature will require developers and businesses to fork over 30% to Apple if they use it. But if Amazon keeps a web interface buying mechanism in place, apparently they avoid that.

Who wants to read a book on the little iPhone screen?
Anyhow, the iPhone is much more useful for games and entertaining apps, like “Fart Bomb”!

“speculation”? amazon would be stupid to hand over a whopping 30% of sales to apple just because they put the purchase feature in the app. there’s nothing here to speculate about.

it would be nice if they made a nice web-app for reading too, but maybe that lacks some sort of features that can an app can have. i wish they’d make an app for at least android and winmo, though.
