Amazon Student App for iOS Delivers 6 Months of Free Prime

Amazon released a new app today aimed at making it easy to get back to school this Fall.

The Amazon Student iOS app is free for the iPhone and iPad, and includes a collection of tools to help you save money as you head back to school and make it easy to get must have items fast, without losing your savings to shipping.

On top of the tools, new Amazon Student users can get 6 months of Amazon Prime shipping benefits, including free 2-day shipping. This deal is also available at Amazon Student without the app for those of us with Android devices or basic phones.

This deal doesn’t include video streaming which is a part fo the overall Amazon Prime package, and is not open to users who have taken advantage of the promo last year. If you have already used up your free prime membership, you can get a full Prime Membership at a student discount price of $39 a year, which includes video streaming.

To take advantage of this offer, you will need a valid .edu address. Amazon restricts this offer to current students, but unlike many deals they don’t seem to check if you are currently enrolled which has led to a collection of users with alumni .edu addresses signing up for the service.

You can find the app in the iTunes app store for the iPhone and iPad. The ap looks like a great way for students to keep costs down as they head back to school.

As a professor, I am very aware of the costs associated with classes, and Amazon almost always has the best deals on textbooks. With this deal, students can order their books and get them right away, so they don’t have an excuse for not being ready for the second day of class.
