Samsung Galaxy S3 & Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.2 Updates Rumored for Q1

Published

It looks like Samsung’s first Android 4.2 Jelly Bean updates may come in the first quarter of 2013 with the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy S3 being the first recipients of the latest version of Android.

A new rumor from SamMobile suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the former of which is currently amidst a Jelly Bean roll out and the latter of which sports the software out of the box, could see the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update arrive in Q1 of next year making them the first Samsung devices to receive the latest update from Google.

Q1 stretches from January through March.

Samsung has not yet confirmed Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for any of its devices, including the Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy S3, but those two will likely be on the very top of the list given their popularity and their release dates. Both are relatively new and are in the hands of million of consumers worldwide.

The Galaxy Note 2 could see the Android 4.2 update in Q1.

Thus far, these are the only two Samsung devices to receive a rumored release window for the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean roll out. However, we imagine that they likely won’t be the only devices graced with the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, first announced in October.

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is an incremental Android update and one that will look to improve upon Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the company’s best edition of Android yet. In addition to all of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean features, the update will be bringing quite a few new ones including a new Gesture-enabled Keyboard, Daydream which is like a screen saver, a new Quick Settings function, more Google Now functionality and more.

Maybe the most intriguing Android 4.2 Jelly Bean feature is Photo Sphere which allows Android owners to take 360 degree Google Street View like images with their device’s camera. It has already leaked out for the Galaxy Nexus and appears to be a great addition to Jelly Bean.

Samsung will likely start talking Android 4.2 once some of the major Android 4.1 updates roll out and that could mean some kind of confirmation in 2012.

To be honest if Samsung’s track record with be released just as Google moves up to Android 5.0.6 as they take forever to push out updates so won’t hold my breath.

4.1 was released by Google July 2012. Samsung needed to work on their additions and changes. After that, the phone carriers needed to test it on their phones. It has already been release by 2 carriers within 4 months. I fail to see how this is slow. Some people would bitch if it took 2 days. Your phone was working just fine and if you did not know this is the process perhaps you want to do without a smartphone.

Just purchased the Gal S3 in Dec 2012 with the 4.1 Jellybean update. Nothing less than amazing! With the new 4.2 coming (predicted in Q1 of 2013) I’m sure we will see nothing less than spectacular with the incredible performance and technology that I’m reading about. I can’t wait!!!!! Keep up the GREAT work Google. You are making our lives fun, educational and interesting through unbelievable technology!!!
