Android 4.4 KitKat & Nexus 5 Launch Date Pegged for October 14th

The Android 4.4 KitKat and Nexus 5 launch date have been pegged for October 14th by a new report that claims that both products will be shown off on that date and that Android 4.4 KitKat features will include availability for older phones, new notification widgets and more.

Earlier this month, Google announced Android 4.4 KitKat, a new version of Android that will be coming to replace Android Jelly Bean as the company’s flagship operating system. The company did not, however, produce many details regarding Android 4.4 KitKat leaving its features and release date out for another announcement down the road.

Rumors have suggested that Android 4.4 KitKat will be arriving with a new Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 5, a device that has been heavily rumored to be coming from LG and possibly Motorola as well. That device has been rumored for an October launch so it would seem that Android 4.4 KitKat might be destined for an October launch as well.

A new rumor from Ausdroid suggests that very thing. The site claims that Android 4.4 KitKat and Nexus 5 launch date may take place on October 14th, a date that falls in October and lines both of these up well for the holiday shopping season. Last year’s Nexus 4 arrived in late October and was released in mid-November, a launch that came back to haunt Google due to supply issues that wiped out stock until February.

The company may be looking to get its products out sooner to compete with the likes of the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C which both arrive on September 20th on all four major carriers in the United States.

Once again, the LG device that leaked out at the FCC and in Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat video has been pegged as the Nexus 5, something that doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The device was clearly seen sporting a massive Nexus logo and rumors have suggested that LG is making at least one new Nexus smartphone for 2014.

What’s more is that the report claims several Android 4.4 KitKat features including updates for older devices, fragmentation changes including screen resizing, Miracast updates, color changes and new notification widgets. If true, it’s looking like Android 4.4 KitKat may be an incremental update rather than a huge feature update.

The features fall in line with Android 4.4 KitKat’s tag line, an update for everybody, so it could be that at least some of these are dead on. Remember, we typically hear at least a little bit about Android updates and Nexus smartphones before their arrival so it’s plausible that some of this is correct.
