Android 4.4 KitKat Update Spotted Again

Published

on

The upcoming Android 4.4 KitKat update from Google has been spotted again ahead of its release date, this time, lurking on a Nexus 10 tablet inside the Chrominium Bug Tracker, a sign that an Android 4.4 update to the Nexus 10 is on the way.

Earlier this month, Google announced an Android 4.4 KitKat update for release at some point in the future, an update that will come to replace Android 4.3 Jelly Bean as the company’s most current operating system. While it announced the name and launched a contest with Nestle, the company did not divulge any of the important details regarding Android 4.4 including release date and features saving those for an undetermined launch date.

Signs are all pointing to a launch date in October alongside a new Nexus 5 and a new Nexus 10 from Asus. Rumors have suggested October 14th but that date still remains unconfirmed. Fortunately for Android users, Android 4.4 KitKat continues to surface ahead of its launch and today, we have discovered another sign of its impending release.

The Android 4.4 KitKat update has already been discovered lurking around the Chrominium Bug Tracker and it has been spotted again, this time on the Nexus 10. The build, KRS74B, was the same build that was spotted earlier this month, and it’s the build that testers are seemingly using to work out some of the kinks.

The person using KitKat on this device is apparently experiencing severe flickering while scrolling and it appears that a workaround for the issue has been found.

This mention is further proof that the Android 4.4 KitKat update will be coming to the Nexus 10. Nexus devices are typically among the first to get software updates and given that the Nexus 10 is less than a year old, this is unsurprising. Other devices thought to be getting Android 4.4 KitKat updates include the Nexus 7, Nexus 4 and the Pantech Vega Iron, the latter of which was confirmed by Pantech well ahead of the Android 4.4 update’s arrival.

While we still don’t know exactly what will be on board, rumors suggest some small changes including updates for older devices, fragmentation changes including screen resizing, Miracast updates, color changes and new notification widgets.

Yesterday we also go a look at what might be the user interface for Android 4.4, a user interface that uses a flatter look, much like Apple’s new operating system, iOS 7.

Considering that ios7 stole a lot of features from android, is say Google isn’t stealing anything.

Let’s also not forget to mention that all of the oems still slap their own overlays on non nexus devices, meaning that the ugly ios7, flat icons are likely to be overridden anyway, especially on Samsung and HTC devices.

I think you mean the nice clean flat ui will be overridden by ugly launchers from htc and samsung :)
