Apple rejecting “Pad” apps

Ok, here we go again. Once again, Apple is in full rejection mode over at the iPad App Store. They are rejecting any application with the work “Pad” in the title. This is similar to what they did with apps with “iPod” in the title.

Over at 9to5mac.com, they have a screenshot from a developer who created an application called ContactPad, got rejected, and got a letter back from Apple. Here is that screenshot:

And so it begins, the iPad App Store crackdown. It has always seemed kind of silly to me that they cant use iPod in a name, as long as they credit it as Apple’s trademark. I just dont get this business sometimes.

    I didn’t knew that Pad is an Apple word mark.
    The whole Apple thing gets more and more ridiculous, but some strange people still buy those products.

    Is Apple making too many enemies just to name a few Adobe, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and HTC. Apple must maintain some form of working relationship with these companies for its own success. Adobe’s photoshop is probably the most used productive application on mac. Apple does not have a real practical alternative to Microsoft’s “office for mac” Google has as much or more money as Apple and will support Android even if it runs in loss for years which (Android – open platform)reminds me of microsoft v Apple battle in 90s. Amazon is making deals directly with the author’s for ebooks by passing the publishing companies which will give Amazon an exclusive rights to many ebooks in future and can sell ebooks at a cheaper price. Steve Jobs creativity has been big plus for Apple but his ego may be a big minus for Apple. Time will tell.

    Pad? PAD?!?!?!? Hand smack forehead.

    @Frank

    ‘The whole Apple thing’?
    ‘Strange people still buy those products’.

    What odd things to say. Do no Apple products have any redeeming features in your eyes then?

    I actually agree with this. I think the devs can be a little more creative with their program names.

    Now, if someone made a program where “pad” was a normal part of a word, like “Notepad”, and it’s rejected, then that’s ridiculous. But obviously if a program is in the iPad or iPod or iPhone store, there’s no reason to tack a superfluous “Pad” or “Pod” (or even “i”) onto the name.

      Someone should try a name for a program that starts with “i” to see if Apple would object, like “iRPN calculator”.

      It would be a good way of testing whether Apple is considering changing its name to “i”.

    Pad can be used as a short name for Notepad. Will Apple now take to court all grocery store for selling apples, all newsagencies for selling pad. If you use a common name for your product expect everyone to keep using it in their own context. What happened to MacIntosh anyway?

      I guess Lenovo should sue Apple because when I look at the name “iPad” I think of ThinkPad…

      or actually…..ideaPad!!!
