Are Foldable Displays Coming Our Way?

Published

on

pilotfish We’ve seen, oh, I don’t know about a gazillion prototypes and concepts of foldable and bendable screens for mobile devices over the years, and we continue to do so. I’m sure one day some company will take this idea off the concept table and put it onto a device that actually comes to market. When is the question. The Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute is showing off a new design that they hope to integrate into mobile handsets beginning next year.

This design uses a Thin Film Transistor Electrophoretic Display (TFT-EPD) and supposedly they have prototypes (called the Pilotfish) ready to show off. I’m not holding my breath on this kind of development, but it would be interesting to see these kinds of things take some real steps forward.

I’m not holding my breath either, but it does look interesting. The color scheme is nice if that means anything.

I guess like any other tech prototype, more than half of them will be leaved in a dark corner somewhere and in 1 year will see these type of screen in new super expensive netbook and intelligent phone.
