AT&T Confirms iPhone 5 Release Date Delivery for Some Pre-Orders

It appears as though AT&T is sending out emails to those who pre-ordered the iPhone 5 last Friday and confirming release date delivery for some of those pre-orders.

We have received several tips from readers that show that AT&T is currently sending out confirmation emails to many who pre-ordered the iPhone 5 last week. Those confirmation emails state that the orders are reserved and that they should arrive as soon as September 21st, the release date for the iPhone 5.

The emails also say that another email will arrive from AT&T with carrier information and a tracking number though those who have received this email say that their order is still processing on AT&T’s website.

So this person clearly ordered through AT&T Premier which is geared toward businesses. Those who pre-ordered through this route last Friday will likely be getting a similar email if their order will arrive on September 21st.

However, many of those that weren’t fortunate enough to order through Premier seem to be in the dark right now as far as when their iPhone 5 is going to arrive.

We’ve heard from several people who pre-ordered through both AT&T’s website and by phone on Friday and who were told that their device would arrive on September 21st. Several of those still have no idea when their device might arrive.

That list includes me as I have yet to receive any email confirmation from AT&T though they said to expect something in the next day or two. AT&T’s customer service line says that my order has left the warehouse to be shipped but neither the automated line nor a representative could give me any other details other than to say I should receive an email soon.

    I have received this email. But I think the caveat is it says “As soon as” This doesn’t guarantee a delivery on the 21st. I ordered my phone around 4:30 PDT. If it’s true that they sold out in an hour, then me receiving this email just means that I won’t see it any earlier than the 21st, There is a remote chance that I will see it on the 21st, but I will probably not see it until sometime after the 21st. This email does not say I am one of the few that get it on the 21st.

    My first email states i will have my phone on sept 21, i just received this email:

    I ordered my phone Friday 6am ET. Had i known this i would of waited online friday morning.

    I received the same email. When I called the Premier line the automated voice told me that my order status was “shipped.” So I sat on hold for 20 minutes to wait for a human to clarify this. He said my order DIDN’T ship, but that it will ship on Friday. I asked if I’d be GETTING it on Friday or if it’d be SHIPPING on Friday, and he said it’ll ship on Friday but I could get it on Friday also. My real question is – how is ATT sending these phones? FedEx or UPS? And will there be Saturday delivery? My real question at this point is if I’ll get it on Saturday or on Monday…I’m not expecting it on Friday.

      They use FedEx so you should receive it by Monday at the latest. Possibly even Saturday because they do overnight sometimes.

    I ordered my iPhone5 on Friday12:00am PST (well actually 1:30am by the time the site stopped crashing) time and the only email I received was the confirmation email for the order with no shipping date. My order status changed today saying that my iPhone was shipped on the 16th so it looks like I should receive it by Friday.

    Hey all,
    I ordered mine on Friday as well, about 10am, (yes a little later than most) but the rep at AT&T explained I “should” see it by Friday the 21st. Although I receieved an email stating that it would be 14-21 business days. I’m not sure if I should be concerned or not, but I still have not received a confirmation my order has shipped. My bets are I wont get one till the weekend..or early next week. Bummer!

    My order status on AT&T’s website now shows as “Shipped”, though with no ship date or tracking number and no confirmation e-mail other than the vague one shown in the article, which I received last night. This morning, the status was still “Processing”. I ordered online through my Premier account on Friday the 14th around 8:30 AM eastern time.

    When I ordered my iPhone4 the same way, I received the phone at my home the day before the actual store release date, so I was ultra-super-cool… I hope to be ultra-super-cool again tomorrow…

    Something is definitely wrong with this picture, or there is just not method to the maddness. Just like you I was finally able to order after all the website crashes. I got my confirmation e-mail at 4:28am EST. That means that my order was placed around the same time as yours and I got the same order confirmation email as you (no shipping date either). However, my status still says “processing”.

    I guess I am going to take the latter and say that there is no method to this maddness.

      UPDATE: Just went back and checked, and my status has changed to shipped. No tracking number or carrier given yet though, as most are saying.

      I per-ordered 2, 1 white & 1 black iphone5 on the 14th, by phone to premier then got an email on the 20th saying they received my order on the 19th! And it was for 2 black phones! I was heated! I called & only got excuses that someone else entered my order on the 19th. Why didn’t it get placed on the 14th? I still don’t know… We’ve held off from buying new phones anticipating the 5. We still have the 3GS & on their last legs… Needed our phones badly, hence the 8:30am preorder. Now we have no idea when we will actually receive & then I have to wait for an exchange! Not happy at all… We have been loyal business customers to AT&T & Apple yet this is the Svc we get… Very disappointed.

    Hi,

    I ordered mine through AT&T at around 9:40 am PDT, and I got an order confirmation email with the order number and a statement “Your order will arrive on 9/21/12”. The website order status still says it’s “processing”.

    I initially saw that my credit card was charged (pending) $229.98 ($199.99 for my iPhone, and $29.99 for my wife’s phone), but today I noticed that that pending charge has disappeared, and a new pending charge showed up with the amount of $63.24 (what??). Description for the charge is “AT&T K006 9968 ESTOR”. What combination could make $63.24??

    I don’t know what is going on.. I haven’t received any other email, neither shipment notification, nor shipment delay or anything like that…

    Does any one have any idea? Or any similar experience?

      i can’t say i’ve seen that before.. although my pending $199 purchase is no longer there, and i show no record of at&t pulling any funds from my account yet. Keep us posted if you find anything out.

      I’m glad I read your comment which made me go and check my bank account. I ordered my iPhone 5 on Friday at 7:00 AM EST and have only received one email saying “We have processed your order and it has been sent to our warehouse for shipment” on AT&T’s site it still show processing with no ship date. Originally AT&T processed my payment and it was in limbo over in the pending withdraw side but as of today the pending charge has been taken off completely. I’m so confused.

    I ordered mine at 3:01 EST thru ATT website… My status is that same as most shows “ordered” the 14th and shipped the 16th yet I still dont have any new emails giving me a tracking number… I also called ATT a bunch of times and each time I received a different answer… As of today 9-19-12 (8:00am) the rep said “it will ship on friday and ull have it monday or tuesday”…. I dont know who or what to believe anymore. I guess im going to just have to wait or keep reading these posts to find out new info

    I got the same email… but still haven’t gotten a follow-up email with the tracking number. Still hoping to get mine on Friday. In the meantime, I’m already trying to decide on what my first wallpaper will be on my iPhone. Been going through 640x1136wallpaper.com and other sites sifting through the current selections. :D

    I haven’t received a confirmation email from apple yet but if you go to UPS.com you can track your order.

    Go to ups.com, hit ‘more options’ under tracking on the left, then ‘track by reference’, type your phone number with area code in the ‘shipment reference’ field and it should give you a tracking number and arrival date.

    I ordered through apple at 00:01 Friday morning through the Apple Store.

      @Chris I noticed this only works for people who ordered it thru apple website… it does NOT work for people who ordered it directly from ATT website. If anyone gets it to work thru ups and ordered it from ATT website please let me know.

        I too tried through UPS, and it didnt give me a tracking number. I guess it must be AT&T. Although, i was told to try FEDEX, which then i followed the same procedure and was unable to receive any tracking info. I guess i’ll have to wait till the day of to see if they followed through.

        AT&T uses fedex for their shipping so ups will not work. My ordered has shipped and I’ve gotten a tracking number from fedex. It’s currently on a plane from fortworth,tx.

    I got the same email. I checked order status through the AT&T support page and now it says my delivery date is 9/17/12, UPS is the carrier but there is no tracking number.

    HEy i ordered my iphone 5 and the money was taken off my card the today i see the money is back on my card does anyone knows what this means

      @James… My mom works at a bank and said they will probably take the money when they ship it… The do a Pre off to make sure you have money in there first… Then your banks drops it after a day or so… after that ATT will still bill you.. the question is when tho… Hope that helps Mines doing the same thing.

    You can find your iphone and track it on UPS.com. Simply go to ups.com and select “Track by Reference”. In “Shipping Reference”, enter the phone number associated with your iTunes account. Next select your country and then your zip code. Then “Track”. It will now show your phones tracking number and where it is in the delivery process. Hope this helps y’all out…

    I just called into AT&T due to the same worry. I spoke with Stephanie who actually was able to give me some information that, “seemed” legitimate.

    “Iphones will be shipping out either UPS or FEDEX overnight” if you check the order status and it shows processing, that means it just hasnt been released until the ship date (most likely tomorrow if you got your pre-order in within 3-4 hours of opening) I processed my order at 3:14 a.m. EST. She told me to go off of the email confirmation. if your email says, “Your iPhone 5 will be delivered on 9/21/12” she told me that is the information to go off of. If by 5:00pm your local time, you dont have tracking information, chances are you didnt make the cut-off. in which case the next shipment (if made on Friday after the first set was gone) would be 14-21 days later… so the 5th or 12th of October.

    Thanks Chris and Bear! UPS.com shows mine (ordered through Apple store online about 12:30am PDT on 9/14 after the site came back up). Phones left Alaska Tuesday night as the last update around midnight. I’m guessing that they’re headed to major UPS distribution centers today (via dog sleds?), local distributor (for me Boise) on Thursday, and MY HOUSE Friday! Shipping shows on time 9/21.

    To anyone that ordered through their carriers sites, most sites are saying that FedEx is delivering those, though I’m not sure if there is a similar “Track by Reference” option.

    Personally, now that I know that it’s going to be here Friday and not October, I’m going to go outside and play. :)

    I have not received an email but my status on ATT website says “processing” but it gives me a carrier(FEDEX) and a tracking #. When I click on the tracking # fed ex has no info.

    I ordered through AT&T Premier and got the same reconfirmation, in your article, yesterday, it doesn’t say anything different that the initial confirmation when the order was first placed. AND is say “as soon as September 21st” That does not mean you’ll get it on the 21st, literally means you could get it as early as that day.

    maybe i’m just a freak, but i check mine hourly and i have yet to see the status change.. i really hope i didnt miss the cut-off. (not sure when that was) i ordered it as early as i could after i worked my late shift. 10am mountain standard time.. my phone is hanging on a thread, still have the iphone 3 LOL.

    Part of my duties where I work is to maintain cellphones. I pre-ordered an iPhone 5 for someone and got put on a waiting list with our ATT Business rep. I got a confirmation email with this number 412529****. Now I also ordered a phone for my wife and myself. The number is 412805****. The difference is 276k. I don’t know if these numbers are first come first serve order numbers or status numbers. The major difference is that the phone I ordered for a co-worker has a tracking number. The iPhones I bought don’t and still say back-ordered. Also the phone that has a tracking number is shipping Via UPS. I entered the users phone number into the Reference Number portion of the UPS site and nothing could be found. So obviously ATT doesn’t user the phone number as a reference number like Apple.

    I checked the ATT.com website for my order status and it was not helpful. So, I called the number provided on the site and it was a bit more encouraging from their automated system which said that the order was processed and at the warehouse for shipping. Then, I chose the option to talk with someone. Jessica was very helpful. I told her I knew that everyone and their grandmother was probably calling asking for clarification about their order, but was she able to tell anything beyond what I heard on the automated response system. She drilled down a bit on her screen and said that it looked like my order was early enough (although it was nearly 4am PDT when I hit the website) to get in on the upcoming shipments and it looked like it would be sent by Monday. No said, no guaranty but it looked hopeful. I find being nice to these folks and joking a bit always helps. They are so used to having people be grumpy or yell at them that it seems like a relief when you’re simply low key and lighthearted. Having said all that, hopefully my phone will be here by Christmas! :-)

    I checked my status on att.com and the status shows “shipped”. Till yesterday the status was “pending shipment”. Tracking information is blank…not sure what this means or when will the phone get delivered

    I ordered mine Friday 9/14 around 11am via the ATT website. I got an email confirmation that stated “Your iphone will arrive on 9/21″…yes, ARRIVE. It also stated that the funds would not be taken out until the phone shipped. The funds came out Saturday, 9/15. Today, the 19th, the website still lists my order as ‘processing’. When I log onto the website to check my status, it says 14-21 days. But the email order confirmation I printed definitely states that the phone will arrive on 9/21. It seems like AT&T’s website is just a worthless POS. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and am hoping that my original order confirmation of 9/21 is still correct.

    Just got off the phone with AT&T…my upgrade has been moved to march of 2013. My last upgrade was the release of the iPhone 4….I said that I could technically cancel my service and purchase at the contract price, but if I had to jump through those types of hoops, why wouldn’t I just go with another service? I was told to feel free to cancel and go with anither service!! After eight years I’m tossed aside! What a way to treat a loyal customer..

    my problem i dont get is i ordered 2 iphone 5’s one 16gb nd one 32gb the 32gb is for me nd the 16gb is for my gf i ordered my 32gb at FRIDAY 3:16 est and hers 3:21est on at&t now i check my order statues it says hers has been shipped but no tracking # or email yet but my 32gb says still processing and on the other page says still processing and 1 quantity back-ordered i called earlier today and she dosent see anywhere tht said back-ordered but i checked just now and it does say tht wthh is going on!! why would hers come before mine wen i got them almost at the same time???? i hope this is not true will be soooo upset

    I’m Sung who posted a comment above about a weird charge from ATT of $63.24. I still don’t know what the charge is, but my online order status has been updated! It used to be simply “processing” with “pending shipment” earlier today. Now it has a carrier assigned (USPS) and shipment date updated to today (9/19). I assume my iPhone is on its way!

    I guess I got lucky … ordered mine at 3:00 AM PST on friday through Verizon. Got my FED EX Tracking number today and have been following it. It is scheduled for a Friday delivery. Couldn’t be happier!

    Me, too, Brad. :) I’ve been watching the AT&T website. First it was processing, then added ship date (which is probably the date it was sent to FedEx) but still processing, then it added FedEx as carrier, now I have a tracking # – which is strange, bc it says it was picked up in Ft Wirth, TX at 6:00 am 9/20/12, but I’m in EST and it’s only 5:17am here. I don’t care bc it says I’ll have it by 4:30pm tomorrow.

    Hi everyone, I didn’t get a confirmation e-mail, but when I checked my order status on Att.com, the shipping info was there already. Apparently it was shipped yesterday and it’s coming from Texas…so go and check your order status on att’s site now…good luck :)

    I ordered mine early on Friday also and on AT&T.com it says “Processing” so I called the automated number just now & it said my order I’d “back ordered”. I “may” get it by October 12. :-(

    After checking my email and att.com religiously for the past couple days I got a confirmation yesterday (my second email from at&t) which looked identical to the one in the article above. Then last night, my order status online said my phone was shipped and today there is a tracking number and fedex shows its en route! (It does look like my emails are from AT&T Premier…I’m not part of a small business so i’m not sure how my order went through that or if it ended up benefiting me in recieving my phone in the first wave….but I have no complaints!)

    I ordered 2 phones through AT&T at about 10:30am ct on pre-order day after the obligatory 2 hours of the site crashing, not responding etc. I was resigned to the probability that I wouldn’t be getting the phones for a couple weeks. Checked my status yesterday and they showed shipped but no other info. This morning I checked the status and it shows the tracking number and expected delivery date of the 21st. I have not received any emails regarding status change. The only email I ever got was right after the order was placed and it had no expected delivery info.

    Ordered my phone around 8 am EST and received the confirmation email indicating a delivery date of 9/21. Just got off the line with customer service and my delivery date is delayed 14-21 days. Why send me an email in the first place saying I’ll have the phone by the 21st??

    I ordered mine and got the email confirmation at 8:47pdt saying shipment 14-21 days, but when I check the site it says the order was placed on 9/16 and still shows processing. WTF???

    Ordered my phone Friday at 645 AM Eastern time through AT&T by computer. It said processing all week. This morning is said shipped and gave me a tracking number and delivery date of 9/21/12 before 3pm. Delivery by FedEx.

    Ordered my phone Friday by calling at 6:02 am Friday Eastern time through AT&T on Phone with their sales rep. They said they had only 80 people handling phone orders and were getting slammed with calls but I was first to get in for that particular operator. I AT&T website was having issues, so I made the call a minute or so later! I just got confirmation this morning on website login that order has shipped and provided tracking number with FEDEX for Friday before 3pm delivery. I used AT&T chat on Tuesday and they gave me FEDEX tracking number over phone since website said order was “processing” up until this morning.

    Janice I had the same issue and was so worried it would affect my delivery date. I ordered at 6:30 am on the 14th but my order date showed the 15th! So I called AT&T and asked them why and they said that its becuase it takes 24 hours or more for your order to process and the system will still know that you ordered on the 14th even though it says it was done later.

    I had these same issues for the 4S. I put my order in store when it opened at 10AM EST and never got my phone on launch. Lesson learned and I only order from Apple now. I got my shipping confirmation at 5AM this morning.

    Just got off the phone with CS @ATT and they actually said they were not shipping any phones at all until Oct 4 for the earliest preorders. But that seems like a tale of fiction if some of you are getting your phones tomorrow. Frustrating. I mind a delay when they say it’ll be there on the 21 in the original order (I ordered early) but not as much as I mind them not providing information and making you have to call them and then finding out the story they told you is kind of make-believe. Sigh. I assume it will get here eventually but it would be nice for once if ATT or Apple were upfront about the production issues and were a little more real about the timetable for delivery.

    I honesty don’t understand why they would even ask you if you want to preorder if your going to get it 3 weeks after the release date they really screwed everyone over IMO now I know for next time just to wait outside in a line cuz then I will know I can get my phone the day it came out. I ordered at 5 am and my order is still processing! Yay! -_-

    I ordered mine through my Premier account online the day AT&T started taking orders. I called them to confirm my order and the person I spoke to told me that my order was received and I would be receiving my iPhone 5 through overnight mail today 9/21. I received an automated email a couple days ago that said my order would be sent out in 14-21 days. I called just now and the Customer Service Rep told me that I wouldn’t be receiving my phone until sometime between Oct 4-16. She said that the person I spoke with before should have never told me that I would receive it today as they are on back order. I asked if this was the case for all online orders and she says it was. As usual, I don’t know what to believe as I rarely get a consistent answer from AT & T. I so wish I could go back to Verizon….anxiously waiting……

    Just called Apple store in Modesto CA, they still have ‘plenty’ of Iphone 5’s available but not for ATT. Just for Sprint & Verizon… I hate ATT… My preorder will not be here for another 2-3 weeks. I thought i pre-ordered it soon enough that i would be getting it today. I sold my 4s on ebay and mailed it out yesterday. Should of waited! now i have no phone. But any yahoo off the street who has a Verizon account can just walk into any apple store and get one while i have to wait 2 weeks…

    I have no proof but I feel AT&T is causing the delay on purpose. AT&T makes very little off iPhones compared to any other phone they sell. Seeing Nokia lumina with windows phone 8 will launch Oct 21 AT&T will try to push Wp8 over the iPhone. Wp7 was flawed and failed hard. If you look back when the wp7 lumina was release all At&t personal were offered free luminas, this included all sales people, or the guys who push what phone they think is best.. the launch went nowhere, the phones were underpowered. wp7 had problem and Nokia seemed close to bankruptcy. This time though WP8’s flagship lumina 920 seems to have what it takes to compete. Samsung and HTC are also jumping on the WP8 bandwaggon. Just thought I would share my opinion & hope everyone enjoys your new phone. Hang in there its just a phone..

    I ordered my iPhone 5 on Fri the 12th at 10 am at an AT&T Store. I was told 14 to 21 days. I just got a shipped confirmation on the 22(Sept) stating delivery on the 24.:)

    I ordered my iPhone on friday the 14th, and it says 14-21 days, and its been 16 days and my phone isn’t here, Im furious because AT&T said it would have came earlier.

    i just checked on my order that was placed 9/14 via At&T premier. Same story as other posts and two of my friends, they claimed the credit card was declined – but now all of a sudden now that I am on the phone it works. HOWEVER I have no lost two weeks of waiting time (my place in line). I have many words for AT&T and they heard them all, then I canceled my order.

    I have been waiting 16 days now for my iPhone 5 when will it arrive I ordered it on sept 21 it’s now October 6 when will I expect iPhone 5 arrive
