AT&T Galaxy Note Jelly Bean Update Possible in May

Published

on

Samsung and AT&T have yet to confirm anything but it’s possible that the long awaited AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will roll out in May, thanks to some new timing given by another carrier that often rolls out its updates in close proximity.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update started rolling out for owners back in February, though owners of the AT&T branded model are still stuck on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with no specific release date in sight. And while that might be the case, there is at least one clue out there that could point to a possible time frame for the update.

The AT&T Galaxy Note Jelly Bean update is possible for May.

As we’ve pointed out numerous times, Canadian carrier Rogers has, in the past, rolled out its Samsung updates around the same time that AT&T has rolled out its updates. With the Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update, Rogers rolled out its update on December 2nd and AT&T rolled its update out on December 3rd. With the Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich update, Rogers rolled its version of the update out on July 13th while AT&T’s Galaxy Note ICS update landed on July 10th.

Earlier this year, we reported that Rogers had changed its Galaxy Note Android 4.1 Jelly Bean timing from March to a more vague “Pending software submission from device manufacturer.” Recently, Rogers updated its website saying that the Galaxy Note Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update is now set for a May roll out, meaning that it clearly received a submission from Samsung.

The Galaxy Note Android 4.1 update on Rogers is slated for May.

The Galaxy Note Android 4.1 update on Rogers is slated for May.

What this means is that the AT&T Galaxy Note could very well see its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in May. As we’ve said before, by no means is this confirmation but it’s certainly a clue given their history.

We also know that a Galaxy Note update for both of these devices is long overdue given that it originally started rolling out many weeks ago and we’re now getting close to summer.

This is likely the closest any AT&T Galaxy Note owners are going to get to a possible roll out window at this point as AT&T seems content at announcing roll outs shortly before they begin.

For now, owners will have to make due with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

In one way the unlocked models N7000 are “quick” in getting updates from Samsung. I downloaded the 4.1 German firmware from http://www.sammobile.com & used Odin 3.7 to install Jellybean. It is running very very smoothly thanks to “Project Butter”. Eventually ATT will release 4.1 Jellybean for the Snapdragon LTE Galaxy Note…just takes awhile. There’s one benefit though to buying from ATT and that’s if you need warranty or something fixed. Buying an unlocked model from the UK & needing something fixed may be a pain in the butt.

Adam, you’re billed as “an editor”. So you should know the phrase is “make DO with”. Not DUE.

Here in the UK the two words are pronounced differently, which helps us not make this mistake. Incidentally, I updated my unlocked GT-N7000 to Jelly Bean yesterday. It didn’t seem to be available OTA, but Kies delivered the official Samsung update when I connected the phone to my Mac.

Still not 4.2.2, but until that turns up I’ll HAVE TO MAKE DO with 4.1.2.
