AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 Release Date Pegged for November 11

Published

on

AT&T will release the Nokia Lumia 920 on November 11 according to a BGR report.

BGR says multiple sources state that AT&T’s current plan is to release the Nokia Lumia 920 on November 11. The site has been wrong about release dates for the Lumia 920 in the past, but says the marketing it saw was “a little off.”

The earlier date BGR mentioned was October 21. AT&T didn’t start selling the Lumia 920 on that date, but that is when Best Buy started taking pre-orders for the upcoming Windows Phone 8 device. Best Buy put the phone up for pre-order with a price of $149.99, but has since taken the phone off its website.

The final release date and price for the Nokia Lumia 920 will likely come out on Monday, October 29. Microsoft will hold an event to finally launch Windows Phone 8 on that date, so its partners will likely start talking about prices and releases either during the event or shortly thereafter.

The November 11 release date does fall close to rumored release dates for other Windows Phones. Recently a leak said Verizon will release the unannounced Nokia Lumia 822 and HTC Windows Phone 8X on November 12. Another recent leak said T-Mobile will release the Windows Phone 8X by HTC on November 14.

The Nokia Lumia 920 will come to AT&T in three colors: cyan, black, and red. The phone has a 4.5-inch PureMotion ClearBlack display with a 1280×768 resolution. It features an 8.7MP PureView camera that takes excellent low-light photos, NFC, and wireless charging. The Lumia 920 will also feature exclusive apps like CityLens which are only available for Nokia Windows Phones.

AT&T will also carry the Nokia Lumia 820 and the Windows Phone 8X by HTC. It’s not clear if those phone will release on the same day, however. The Windows Phone 8X on AT&T is still available for pre-order at Best Buy, so it’s release is likely coming up relatively soon. Neither Nokia nor AT&T have said much about the Lumia 820 since the announcement.

I just kick out the lumia 920 out of my list. I am sick of the delay over and over again.

I’m getting really close to having the same position. I’ve been waiting patiently.

I’ve had about enough. Granted, I was basing my decision off of media speculation.. that doesn’t obligate me to continue to wait for more speculation, though.

Really the new Windows Phone 8 isn’t anything special to me, more a risk even – but I was planning on getting the Lumia 920 anyway. I sold my old iPhone 4 about a month and a half ago in anticipation of buying the iPhone 5. Lumia caught my eye just as the iPhone came out – and when I went to get the iPhone I wasn’t real impressed with what had changed.

I’ve been following the Lumia 920 since, expecting to order one in late October for an early November release. I won’t be waiting until the 11th, though. I will be purchasing a phone before the end of the month. Looks like I’ll be back between Samsung and Apple. Hmm.

Too bad Nokia. Your inability to give concrete information is no doubt costing you customers. Why it’s so hard to set a release date is beyond me.

So your upset with Nokia because you got impatient and sold your phone? We knew there would not be an official release date until Win8 was announced on the 28th so what is this concrete info you were expecting? Notice it is the same for other win 8 devices. This isn’t much different than how Apple handled the iPhone 5 either. They announced it’s release date 9 days or so before it hit shelves if I recall correctly. We actually have more of a heads up with the lumia. The 11th isn’t much later than the speculated 2nd release date. You may want to work on your patience a bit an not jump the gun over rumors and speculation next time.

ER, while I agree with your comment, how many people like Kelly are out there? Nokia needs to sell a lot of these phones and for every Kelly there is a missed opportunity. Ultimately companies stay in business by not only meeting, but exceeding expectations of customers. Would you consider the launch of Windows phone 8 as “exceeding the expectations” of customers? Nokia and Microsoft are great companies, but they need to hire some Apple marketing people ASAP.

With iPhone, Apple is secretive. They don’t announce it and show it off at events and have demos etc. Microsoft President Joe Belfiore owns one and says its his daily use device. Etc etc. basically we’ve been told about this device for months now and it’s time to release it. What’s the delay. Why the holdup?

This isn’t a delay. Neither AT&T nor Nokia ever confirmed a release date, hence the mention of the WP8 launch party on Oct 29. So how can it be a delay when there was never any date confirmed for release?

There isn’t a “delay” but you have to admit that the marketing of the phone hasn’t been handled well. First it is announced in early September. There was excitement and that only continued to build throughout September and early October. Eventually the excitement has to have a payoff. Rumors were late October. I know Nokia didn’t make the claim, but they didn’t refute it or give any concrete info either. Why is the release date such a secret? And now that we know Windows phone is being launched October 29th why aren’t the phones available on that date? Either Microsoft or Nokia dropped the ball. I assume it was Microsoft since none of the phones will be available on the launch day, but the RTW was on September 14th. Was it that buggy? You can’t have phones available in a month in a half? I am still holding on for the Lumia 920, but if there is another “delay” I may jump ship too. It is just strange that Nokia and Microsoft need a hit with Windows phone 8 but they have handled the roll out so poorly.

We knew the the WP8 would launch on October 28th at least by early September, and initial rumors expected the Lumia to launch in early November with some saying Nov. 2nd. Regardless Nokia could not release the phone before WP8 officially launched. The “secrecy” likely has to do with the phone launching on a new OS and them having to orchestrate the release with Microsoft and ATT. Surely Nokia is simply getting their ducks in order as well before giving an official date just as Apple did when they only gave a little over a weeks heads up with the iPhone 5.

Or there making sure they have the phones to sell in like apple…. I sell phones….. There has been no date it’s coming out and the 920 is the phone I’m waiting for as well I sold my note and useing my 3GS and I’m not crying about it….. You can just wait or get a phone and be sad you didn’t wait for it

            10/27/2012 at 6:55 pm

I understand it was launching on the 29th. The problem is that windows RT and Windows 8 launched on the 26th and you could actually buy a device running that software on the day of release. We know the RTM for windows phone 8 was September 14th, so what is the holdup? Hell Jessica Alba already has one so I know it can be made. I will still wait, but they are blowing their chance to make a splash with this phone. Imaging how many would have sold if it had been released before the iPhone. Not giving a date for release is horrible marketing, right now people have been speculating for 2 months and the speculated release date keeps getting pushed back. Eventually people move on to a different phone and that is a missed opportunity to add someone to this platform that has to be successful or it will go away. I am not talking about people that have already decided this is the phone they want, but the undecided purchaser or the one that might change their mind. The same delays happened with the Lumia 900 and Nokia had to deeply discount them and it still had poor sales. Either Microsoft or Nokia is really screwing this up and whoever it is may be destroying the chance for a successful platform.

Agreed. Media hype has been quite effective and extensive, so people have been hoping for an earlier rather then later release. It will be well worth the wait, (about 2 weeks).

There was a never a delay. It was always expected to release in early November but never announced. Speculation and rumors pegged it for Nov. 2nd, but again that was just speculation.

That is the problem, it wasn’t always November as the release date. The same source that is reporting the November 11th date was reporting October 21st as the release date earlier this month. Some people questioned that because Windows phone wasn’t set to be launched until October 29th. BGR said he had “numerous sources that gave him the October 21st date”. There was a big debate and some said pre-orders would start that day and others said Lumia may get to release on that date because Microsoft was rewarding them for going “all-in” on windows phone. Well October 21st rolled around and Best Buy started taking pre-orders. This would seem to indicate that the phone would be available on October 29th. Then we hear that it will be November 2nd or 4th. Now it is November 11th. What happens if next week it is moved to December? Remember the November 11th date isn’t set by Nokia either, but by the guy that said October 21st a few weeks ago. The hype has worked well for Lumia up to this point, but eventually people get tired of hype and just want a phone. Something is wrong here, you don’t make a product available weeks after the official release. You hope to capitalize on the hype of the release to drive sales. No windows phones will be available for the launch of windows phone. That is horrible.

Why is it only coming in cyan, black, and red? What happened to yellow? That was my choice :(

I think the author is wrong about those three colors. I was able to pre-order a white one off of best buy (they had the yellow one up too) and if they don’t have it, it shouldn’t have been there to start with.

Matt Cyan, Matt black, glossy red, grey, glossy white, and yes glossy yellow.

Color can not be USP . But put more effort in making Lumia a hyped product so they need put more effort for penetrative marketing like iphone5

So far BGR is the only “source” for this release date. Other sites that have tried to confirm through their sources haven’t been able to do so. It is possible that BGR is wrong and November 4th is still the date.

You guys are all geeks!! Look, it’s just a freakin phone!! Who cares when the release date is. Take some Ritalin, calm down, and when its released you can own it on that date. Why so impatient? What are you gonna do next, drop to the floor and have a tantrum? In the meantime, get a life and do something constructive. I heard all of this same crap for the iphone releases too. Kids.

I am more concerned about the survival of Nokia as I am an investor in the company. The release date delays drive down the stock price. Doesn’t matter if it isn’t really a delay, they stock is valued on perception. The perception is that the phone is delayed. Nokia makes great stuff, they just need to get it into peoples hands, and that can’t happen until it is released.

        11/05/2012 at 6:19 pm

You’re reading way too much into this. The phone seems to be rock solid as a product and will sell well. I’ll get one too, but you won’t find me knocking people over at the AT&T store to grab one the first day it comes out. Relax. And by the way, I don’t know where you get this crap about stock prices being valued on perception. If that were the case, no one would invest in anything!! Everyone has a different opinion on each publicly traded company. Instead of being a paranoid schizophrenic, educate yourself on P/E ratios, earnings history, debt ratios and management vision. Perception?? Hah! This company has put way too much thought and resource into this. The device will sell itself on the powerful integration of the operating system with the nice handheld device that it is. Your average consumer does NOT have the perception of a delay as there was no release date set in the first place. They did however, create a buzz about the product far in advance of any release and folks like you are sounding like idiots because you want it NOW!! Like I said, relax and take a chill pill. You’ll be able to get your hands on one soon enough. And no, there is no perception of delay. And check your stock price. You should be pleasantly surprised in a few months.

It doesn’t matter if it is delayed or not, WP8/Microsoft/Nokia/HTC need every sale they can get. The marketing on all ends was a joke beyond words. They should have never announced this 3 months ago, they have had four announcements between Microsoft HTC and Nokia and no release dates and very little information about the OS. Every day that goes by is probably a thousand people that go by the iPhone, I personally think its not being released because everybody is unorganized and unprepared! Hire new marketing people Nokia/Microsoft, your not Apple your not creating anticipation just aggravation!
