AT&T’s 4G LTE Galaxy S II Skyrocket Getting OTA Software Update

Published

on

AT&T and Samsung are pushing out a software update for the Galaxy S II Skyrocket, one of the carrier’s first two 4G LTE smartphones, that corrects a Google voice search bug. The software update would bring the Android software version to Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. The software update should begin showing up on users’ devices, but if you want to grab the update before it gets pushed out to your device, you can navigate to the settings menu and manually check for the update that way.

It’s unclear if AT&T and Samsung brought any additional enhancements or bug fixes with the latest update, but given that the Galaxy S II Skyrocket barely just launched, the two have been pretty fast about rolling out the update.

So far the phone is pretty good, but some aspects need to be addressed, especially the battery issue, i’m hoping the new update did that, speaking of which why don’t they notify you of the changes that the new update addressesso one can choose too update or not.

As of Jan 31, 2012, manually checking for software updates on 2.3.5 phone does not bring up 2.3.6 update. Voice command doesn’t work for texting or calling. “Call Julie” does a web search and “text Julie” gets put in the body of text message. Also, “call Julie” command doesn’t work on car’s bluetooth like every other phone I’ve tried but “call 5551212” does.

Installed VLingo to get around phone app problem but car bluetooth is bigger issue.
