Whenever Apple announces a big new product is creates a video of executives talking about how they designed the new device that’s ripe for parody.
The newest parody ad comes from John Elerick who parodies Apple’s video at every iPhone release. Elerick’s “Banned iPhone 5 Promo” features himself and a few others imitating Apple executives talking about the updates in the new phone, which they seem to describe as minor or trivial.
The video touches on a number of issues with the phone, from the Apple’s naming system and overuse of certain adjectives to the small update to the camera. It’s easy to take the video as a shot against the iPhone 5 for not doing anything unexpected, but it’s also just a great shot at Apple and how it advertises its devices.
With 2 million units sold in the first day the iPhone 5 already broke records for Apple. The sales numbers aren’t too surprising, but Apple’s description of the device is also unsurprising in some ways. The best example is the panoramic mode in iOS 6, which Apple hails as a great new feature. Apple’s ads don’t even mention that third-party apps offered panoramic options for years, or why it’s version is better.
Videos like these often get turned into reasons for users to fight over their platforms of choice, but as a person who stayed up until 3 a.m. to pre-order the iPhone 5 I find it easy to laugh at. After all, if you can’t find the faults in your mobile phone of choice, you’re just not being honest with yourself.
