Battlefield 1 In the Name of the Tsar Release Date Tips

The Battlefield 1 In the Name of the Tsar DLC has finally arrived and today we want to help Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC owners prep for the new DLC.

In the Name of the Tsar’s first map, Lupkow Pass, arrived for Premium Pass holders inside the company’s August base game update.

After a bit of the wait, the rest of In the Name of the Tsar’s content is now available for Premium Pass holders. DICE plans to release it as a standalone expansionn on September 19th.

Now that In the Name of the Tsar is here, it’s time to start preparing for its arrival. Whether that’s clearing out some hard drive space (the DLC is huge), digging into the content (there’s a lot of it), or finding a deal (we’ve seen deals on the Premium Pass), there are some things you can do right now to make your life easier.

Clean Up Your Hard Drive

In the Name of the Tsar comes inside of a mandatory update for all Battlefield 1 players. The update is a massive file across the board.

In the Name of the Tsar and its update require 10GB of free space on the Xbox One and PS4. The download is a little bit smaller (8.5GB) on the Windows PC.

If you’re nearing your hard drive’s threshold, you’ll need to clean out some space in order to install the DLC and the update. Again, this update is required for all Battlefield 1 players, not just those who own the Premium Pass.

If you find yourself struggling with a decision over what to delete, it might be time to invest in an external hard drive. There are lots of inexpensive options out there but this 2TB portable external hard drive from Seagate is one of our favorites and a solid, affordable choice.

Prepare For the Download

If you want to play the new DLC right now, make sure you’re prepared for the download.

If your home wireless connection can be slow, we recommend plugging an ethernet cord directly into the back of your Xbox One, PS4, or Windows PC. This could help speed up the DLC’s download.

If you aren’t going to be home today, it might be a good idea to turn your console’s automatic updates on. With automatic updates turned on, the DLC and the patch will download while you’re sleeping or out at school/work.

Make Sure HDR is Enabled

In the Name of the Tsar delivers HDR10 support (HDR stands for High Dynamic Range) which will make the game look stunning on televisions and consoles that support the feature.

If you own the proper gear, it might be a good idea to go in and ensure HDR is turned on. If you own a PlayStation, take a look at this guide. If you own an Xbox, take a look at this one.  They’ll help you get started.

Where to Find the In the Name of the Tsar Change Log

DICE’s new DLC comes with a nice set of bug fixes for lingering Battlefield 1 problems.

Premium Pass vs. Standalone DLC

If you want to play the DLC right now you need to own the Premium Pass.

The Battlefield 1 Premium Pass is a $50 (or less) season pass that nets you two weeks early access to DLC maps, priority in queues, and additional content including unique dogtags and 14 superior battlepacks. It’s also necessary if you want to enroll in the Battlefield 1 CTE.

DICE will also release In the Name of the Tsar as a standalone expansion, meaning, you’ll be able to buy it separate from the rest of Battlefield 1’s DLC and content.

Nothing is confirmed but we fully expect In the Name of the Tsar to command the same $15 price point as the They Shall Not Pass DLC.

Look for Premium Pass Deals

We probably won’t see too many deals on the standalone version of In the Name of the Tsar. We haven’t seen many for They Shall Not Pass.

That said, we’ve seen a bunch of Premium Pass deals and you’ll want to be on the lookout for price cuts on and around the DLC’s release date.

Get Familiar with the Content

If you weren’t able to try In the Name of the Tsar, and you don’t own the Premium Pass, you can get familiar with the game’s content without picking up a controller.

In the Name of the Tsar’s two other maps, Galicia and Volga River, have finally been revealed and the video below from streamer Flakfire showcases them for the first time.

DICE’s also putting together its own guides and the developer recently highlighted Tsaritsyn, a map that pits the Red Army against the White Guard. These general tips will help you prepare for the ferocious fighting on one of our favorite maps from the second DLC.

Use Premium Trials & Premium Friends

If you want to get a feel for In the Name of the Tsar’s maps before purchasing the Premium Pass or a standalone copy, you’ll want to take advantage of DICE’s Premium Trials and Premium Friends.

When Premium Friends is active you can play DLC content provided you’re in a party with a friend who owns the game’s season pass. These trials are limited to a few days so you’ll need to keep an eye on the Battlefield 1 calendar.

The company also hosts Premium Trials which allows Xbox One, PS4 and PC gamers to try DLC content without joining a friend. Like Premium Friends, these events are sporadic and short.

Get Ready for Problems

Lupkow Pass is plagued with various bugs and problems and we expect the rest of the DLC to cause problems for Xbox One, PS4 and PC users as well.

In the Name of the Tsar’s content went through testing but there will almost certainly be problems. Some will be small annoying bugs, others have the potential to do more than just annoy you.

It’s difficult to predict what problems will impact you so it’s important to be prepared. To help you get ready, we’ve put together a list of fixes for common Battlefield 1 problems. It’s a good resource to bookmark.

If you do run into a problem with In the Name of the Tsar’s content be sure to report the issue(s) to DICE. This way, its engineers can include a patch in the October Battlefield 1 update or another future update.

In the Name of the Tsar is now available, in full, to those of you who own the Premium Pass. If you own the Battlefield 1 Premium Pass you'll simply need to download the latest Battlefield 1 update to unlock the rest of the DLC's content. The update is mandatory for all Battlefield 1 players. If you're planning to play Battlefield 1 today or in the near future, here's what you can expect from the In the Name of the Tsar update's size.
