Belkin iPad mini Keyboard Case Challenges Logitech

Belkin recently announced its new FastFit Bluetooth Keyboard Case for iPad mini, a super-thin Bluetooth keyboard for the iPad mini to combat Logitech’s Ulrathin Keyboard mini.

Like the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini the Belkin FastFit Keyboard fits the iPad mini as both a case and a keyboard. The device can cover the display of the iPad mini when not in use, and uses magnets to enable auto-sleep and auto-wake like Apple’s Smart Cover case.

Unlike the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini, the Belkin FastFit keyboard is actually thinner than the iPad mini itself. The FastFit Keyboard is just 7mm thick, which makes it 0.2mm thinner than the iPad mini and 03.mm thinner than the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini. It’s not a difference that most users will notice, but it’s certainly a point that Belkin seems proud of.

Belkin also claims the FastFit Keyboard is the lightest keyboard available for the iPad mini, but it doesn’t give the device’s actual weight.

Because of the small size of the iPad mini, the keyboard of the Belkin FastFit Keyboard is smaller than a traditional keyboard. That means most keys are smaller than they would be on a full-sized keyboard. The layout resembles the keyboard of a netbook, except that it has iOS-specific keys.

The Belkin FastFit Keyboard can last for 155 hours of continuous use on a single battery charge. Using Logitech’s method of two hours of use each day, the FastFit would theoretically last for about 77 days or about two and a half months on a single charge. That’s just about two weeks less than Logitech’s claim.

Belkin also claims the FastFit can last for three months in standby mode on a single charge.
