In recent years we’ve seen fewer and fewer Android tablets released, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have options in 2018. It’s actually the opposite, and you’ll be happy to learn we’ve found a few great cheap tablets from reputable brands. Here’s what you need to know, and which ones you should buy.

The problem with buying a cheap Android tablet is picking something good. For every quality budget tablet, there are dozens of poorly made, chunky and slow models sold online or on the shelves at Wal-Mart. These are what you want to avoid.

You’ll find great deals on cheap Android tablets during Back-to-school sales and Black Friday, but most of them are tablets we wouldn’t recommend. They won’t get software updates, have poor performance, and typically don’t deliver a good experience.

With that said, we want to help you make the right decision. Our tablets below are from brands we know, use and trust. They will work almost just as good as the more expensive models. Whether you’re buying yourself a gift or a tablet for the kids, here’s five of the best cheap Android tablets to buy right now. We’ll update this list throughout 2018.

ASUS ZenPad S 8.0

ASUS ZenPad S 8.0

One of the main reasons most consumers buy a tablet is for media consumption. Browsing the web on the couch or in bed, watching YouTube videos, or catching up on Netflix series. If that's you, consider the ASUS ZenPad S 8.0 tablet.

While ASUS offers a lot of tablets, the ZenPad S 8.0 is the newest model and perfect for enjoying media. Mainly because of the stunning and crisp display and great sound output thanks to dual front facing speakers.

The ASUS ZenPad S 8.0 is thin, has small bezels and comes with an 8-inch 2048 x 1536 Quad-HD IPS display. Basically one of the best screens around considering it only costs $179. The ZenPad runs the latest Android 7.0 Nougat and is powered by an Intel ATOM Quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. You only get 32GB of space, but there's a microSD slot to expand storage.

Basically, the ZenPad S 8.0 has a great screen, excellent sound and speakers, a decent metal design and fast performance. You'll also get an 8MP rear and 5MP front camera setup. The custom version of Android 7.0 Nougat isn't the best, but it works great for the price and what you'll need it for.

There's also a more expensive model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage if you want a little better performance and more space.
