Big Add-on Revealed for Future Halo 5 Update

Published

on

New multiplayer features and the return of a fan favorite multiplayer mode are just two of the things Microsoft’s 343 Industries is teasing for 2016. The developer announced the return of Firefight and some other content additions late last week. All of this content is set to come in Halo 5 updates over the next few months or so.

Microsoft itself teased new content coming to Halo 5: Guardians in a recent Xbox Wire post. Halo 5: Guardians was the company’s biggest exclusive game launch last year. Featuring Master Chief John 117, Spartan Jameson Locke and two teams of Spartans, Microsoft hoped that the first-person shooter would lift sales of its Xbox One entertainment console. The company’s plan succeeded. Since then, Microsoft has rolled out monthly Halo 5 updates to add new content. Forge, a sandbox for creating customized matches, modes and level designs, was introduced in a recent Halo 5 update.

Here's what you need to know about Halo 5.

Ghosts of Meridian, Memories of Reach, Hog Wild and Warzone Firefight are the four major Halo 5 updates 343 Industries has plans to release until mid-summer. It’s Warzone Firefight that’s attracting the most attention. Halo 3: ODST introduced an entire game mode with the same name.

Microsoft confirms that it’s bringing back Firefight for Halo 5: Guardians owners in the post accompanying the infographic that reveals each update’s name. Like the Firefight that proceeded it, Warzone Firefight will task players with battling waves of enemies, not other players. Co-operative online will be supported.

It seems as if the only big difference between Warzone Firefight and the old Firefight are where the matches take place. The older version reused campaign spaces. Warzone Firefight’s name hints at it reusing the spacious Warzone maps that exist in the game today.

The Ghosts of Meridian, Memories of Reach, Hog Wild and Warzone Firefight Halo 5 updates will add, maps, modes, vehicles, weapons and new REQ Cards, Microsoft confirms. The company doesn’t say specifically which updates will contain which new content. Memories of Reach’s name suggests that we could see some of the game’s content besides Firefight make a return. Hog Wild’s title suggests that it’ll focus on the Warthog vehicle.

Microsoft isn’t ready to say anything about these major Halo 5 updates just yet. Presumably, we’ll hear about each as they get closer to release each month. That’s how Microsoft delivered news of Halo 5 updates since launch. The order of the names on the infographic suggest that Halo 5 will get the Warzone Firefight update sometime in June. That would mean that the March Halo 5 update is Ghosts of Meridian.

Last week’s post also contained news about the Halo 5 update that players just received. Called Hammer Storm, it added only a single new map, but came stuffed with new modes instead. Grifball, Assault and Fiesta are all a part of Halo 5 now. The Gravity Hammer, pistol from the very first Halo and new weapon skins were added to the game too. Forge also received some upgrades to allow more of Halo’s classic modes to return.

Of course, the best part about these upgrades is that users don’t have to pay Microsoft any more money to receive the new content. Halo 5: Guardians allows users to buy REQ Packs with real money instead of paying for new downloadable maps separately. There are no map packs or season passes for the game.

All of these Halo 5 updates, from Hammer Storm to Warzone Firefight, are completely free for any Xbox One owner that has Halo 5: Guardians.

Halo 5: Guardians is $59.99 in Microsoft’s Xbox Store right now. Retailer GameStop has new copies of the game for $39.99 and Limited Editions available for $79.99

This game just keeps getting better and better and I hope other developers take note of the strategy (DLC Wise) that 343i is using.

What strategy is that? Releasing an incomplete game then fixing it later when the game has lost the majority of its players?

Still no infection, split screen, reach armor customization, playable elites, dual weild, UNSC air vehicle, race mode. Still not going to play it until they add these features back

Still no spinach, rice, rabbit meat, and pretty patties for the McDonald’s Big Mac. Still not going to eat there until I get what I want.

Right, I hated when McDonald’s took those away, how hard would it be to just leave them? Oh, wait, they never had them, whereas Halo games had most of those features since Halo 3. =(

That being said, I understand that they wanted to get the game released before Christmas, so they couldn’t put everything in, and they didn’t have to keep updating the game, I appreciate that. And honestly, I’ve been having more fun in Halo 5 than any other recent shooter, so if I were to have to choose between the new gameplay mechanics, and those features Chris mentioned, I’d easily choose the former.

They took split screen out to up the graphics if you want split screen there is a device that can make it split screen but you need another xbone and halo 5 game

Lol you wine to much. They’re not going to build a game based on “your” needs!! It’s people like you that can’t compromise that makes me sick.

Makes me sick too. Hello, you’re the ones who bought it, not compromising simply makes the developers try harder to make a better product, what are we Capitalists?

Infection would be nice but im not gonna downgrade a game for not giving me what i want. I still have loads of fun in Warzone. Btw dual wield would be too o.p. its been on and off for me on the basis i dont have internet all the time but its still fun to give it a whirl

The game is rad. Adding old favourites will just make a great thing better. I’m much more impressed with the new mantle, boost and ground pound than I was with dual weild.

They can’t just add in dual welding you know how unbalanced that will be. No I prefer it out of halo 5 then 343i can work on balancing it for halo 6 or something.

The game is very good! Best halo in my opinion. Why do I think so? Because the game adds a new richness that none of the other halo’s ever offered. This richness comes in the form of Req packs that provide an immense amount of customization that keeps you wanting more. The more I play the better the experience because you obtain more customization for your gameplay in the form of new weapons, new suites, etc. If I would do anything different to this game, I would make the gameplay more seemless and less clunky. You’ll be running and the littlest edge or rock will keep you from going forward. But other than that everything is very fun. Not to mention the DLC’s are FREE! I have mad respect for that!

Get a job…. buy another xbox if you have to…. eventually everyone will not be so childish and complaining about split screen… also the game was complete they decided later that they would say no it can be better and did FREE addons…. unlike those Destiny players… playing a game that you can beat in 3 hrs and then paying 60 bucks for each add-on that only adds 2hrs of game play at max…. people are so pathetic if you don’t like it don’t play it leave it to others to enjoy while you dwell in your self sarrows
