Comcast to Offer Usage Meter for Broadband Cap

Published

on

When Comcast announced that it was going to begin capping users bandwidth usage at 250GB per month there were lots of protests about the cap itself and also because there was no way (without third party utilities) for users to monitor their usage.

Well, now it looks like Comcast is going to be offering a usage meter come January 5, 2009. According to DSL Reports the tool won’t be a real time monitor as it will have a 3 hour delay and it will retain 3 months of usage data. It will also allow monitoring of mulitple MAC addresses.

Oh goody, that’s mighty nice of them.

Actually, I realize most people won’t ever hit that limit unless they’re streaming tons of multimedia. Still, I find it annoying that carriers are placing such limits on customers in the first place.

One thing I haven’t seen explicitly stated anywhere though is whether its upstream and downstream, downstream only, or what.

It has worked very well for me, but i woul like more people to share their opinions. Comcast did a bad thing to put a cap on the broadband usage, but then unlimited broadband usage is a gonna with the rise of stuff like you tube
