Dear GottaBeMobile Readers: Which Mobile OS Do You Roll With?

Published

on

I have been away a while and I wanted to get a better read on the GBM community so that I might know more about our audience.

Besides tablets, notebooks and other mobile devices, what are you guys using for your phone needs? Do we have more Android users? Or maybe a big Windows Mobile following? I feel this will be very important info for me moving forward in trying to cater my content to your interests. I plan to cover the 3 major players mainly, but I can lean one way or another depending on the community, even though I am now platform agnostic.

Last year I talked about a Wall Street Journal poll that was skewed by fanboys. This poll had Microsoft (Windows Phone) and Apple (iOS) about even with 10k votes each. Overnight, Google gained about 80k votes to Microsoft’s 2k gain. Believe it or not, that poll is still online a year later and the results are nothing short of amazing. If you believe it, it seems that Google’s Android is tops by far!

  • Apple : 6162 votes
  • Google: 3,402,658 votes
  • Microsoft: 15,145 votes

Really? I guess someone forgot to turn off the automatic voting script. The WSJ finally closed the poll at some point, but you get the point.

Let’s not have our poll become skewed like that! It’s not a “What’s your favorite” or “Which is the best” poll anyhow. It’s just a way to see what our readers are rolling with. If this poll seems familiar, it should. I ran an identical poll last year when I first came on board. A complete year changes a lot of things though!

Feel free to comment and let me know what actual phone you are using too.

Polls like this are interesting, though only if it’s understood that it applies only to the readers who happen to run across the poll and vote. If you try to apply the results to the population at large, then it loses statistical credibility. Just saying that as a caution.

In addition to Android, I also use Win7 on my tablet, an HP Slate 500.
