Dow Jones Confirms Apple Netbook Rumor

Published

on

Another day and the ball gets kicked down the field a little further on a possible Apple Netbook. Dow Jones, citing two unnamed sources says Apple will indeed launch a Netbook later this year with a touch screen between 9.7 and 10  inches. Another source is saying that other specs have not been decided.

I’m still not holding my breath.

If by “netbook,” they mean a $1000+ notebook with a 10″ touchscreen and ability to access the Internet, then I see no reason to question the report.

same thoughts as the 1st reply … even if they produce their own T91, its going to be too expensive. Apple is not the company for me, period. I despise them more than I have ever rejected MS in their (long gone) “evil-empire” days.
With Apple you have to choose between being sexy and open. I grant that they do a very good job at the former but I would take the 2nd runner at the beauty contest and still have a personality behind the looks.

tal: if you’re going to draw comparisons of openness, please familiarize yourself with Apple’s software. Apple released Darwin, the core of OS X, as open source in 2000. In addition, Mac OS X is now UNIX 03 compliant and supports open source technologies, like Ruby on Rails. WebKit, the engine for Safari and pretty much all of Apple’s web rendering products, was opened in 2005. So while the “sexy” interfaces of their software are closed, they’re built on open source foundations. It’s not a choice between sexy and open; it’s a compromise.

PC World is quoting rumors about “an iPod Touch with a big touch screen but no keyboard”:
    https://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/160959/rumored_apple_device_probably_wont_be_a_netbook.html

We’ve heard such rumors before, but they persist because they make a lot of sense.
