Just a short time after Motorola pushed out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates for the Motorola Droid RAZR, Droid RAZR MAXX and Droid 4, the company has issued an time frame for the Droid Bionic Jelly Bean update which it says will be rolling out in the second quarter of this year.

Earlier this year, Motorola rolled out a trio of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates. Owners of the Droid RAZR, Droid RAZR MAXX and the Droid 4 were all treated to upgrades from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. In that time, Motorola continued to promise Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for another aging smartphone, the Droid Bionic, but did not commit to a specific time frame for the update’s roll out.

The Droid Bionic Android 4.1 update has been confirmed.

However, that has changed as the company has confirmed that the Motorola Droid Bionic Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will be rolling out sometime in the second quarter of this year.  What this means is that owners are going to have to face a lengthy window for the roll out as Q2 spans across April, May and June.

Motorola has been extremely diligent about rolling out its updates well ahead of time so it could be that the Motorola Droid Bionic Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update rolls out much sooner than June. Of course, given its age, anything can happen.

The Droid Bionic will be getting Android 4.1 sometime in Q2 of this year.

Certainly this is great news for owners of the Droid Bionic who will be getting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ahead of the end of their two year contracts. The Droid Bionic first arrived back in September of 2011 to great fanfare but was subsequently overshadowed by the Droid RAZR release just a few weeks later.

Still, plenty of people bought into the first dual-core 4G LTE smartphone on Verizon so it’s nice to see the carrier still upgrading the device nearly two years later.

We expect the update to roll out in phases, much like Verizon’s other Android updates, and once completed Droid Bionic owners will all have access to an assortment of features including Google Now, a smoother UI, better Browser and Calendar apps, and more.

Hopefully Jelly Bean won’t screw up the Bionic the way it did the Razr. It messed mine and many others up so badly that I finally gave up and reactivated my old HTC Incredible and will use it until they fix the Razr bugs or announce that they are giving up on it.

well thanks for the heads up but no thanks to motorola, this seems like the ICS roll out all over again. this makes me not want to buy another motorola phone ever again.

ICS did not go well on my phone. I ended up getting a replacement Bionic, preloaded with ICS, and it works great. I can only hope that JB goes better.

Finally! I’m one of the rare people that has not had any issues with the Bionic. After tweaking the power settings with Juice Defender and tweaking other items (such as the keyboard) it’s turned into a pretty good phone.

I’ll be looking forward to the JB update. Hopefully they got rid of the headphone whine.

That “headphone whine” was actually deemed a hardware issue about 10 months ago. Jelly Bean will NOT fix the issue. I had to go through about 7 phones (returns) before I finally got one without the whine. They actually made 2 versions of the Bionic, the XT865 and the XT875, I don’t know which you have but you should have the XT875. You literally need to keep sending the phones back one right after the other until you get one that works properly. Send your phone back as soon as possible because JB will not fix the problem.

I must’ve been given the same one hou have because I don’t have any major issues with my phone. My phone welcomed the ICS and has been working fine ever since.

Jelly Bean will show up around the time my contract ends. I was ready to see “will it blend?” until the ICS update finally arrived and fixed my Bionic connectivity issues; I do like Jelly Bean on the Nexus 7, but I’m nervous about a potential setback to my finally-reliable phone.

Personally I am done with moto. I have had decent performance (except for suckie camara) from my bionic but clearly it is not on motos’ priority list. My contract is up next month and i will likely go to the samsung note 2…
