Droid DNA Android 4.2 Update Release Date Up in the Air

Published

on

As expected, the Droid DNA Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update won’t be rolling out anytime soon. Instead, HTC confirmed that the device will be receiving Android 4.2.2 first, with new Sense experiences, and that it will be rolling out by the end of the year, leaving Droid DNA owners without a concrete Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update release date.

Earlier this year, HTC President Jason Mackenzie promised a Droid DNA Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update in September, information that started to smell fishy when Verizon posted a Droid DNA change log to its website that showed an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update with Sense 5 instead. Then, a noted HTC insider suggested that the device would, in fact, be getting Android 4.2.2 first, not Android 4.3.

HTC Droid DNA announcement

The Droid DNA should see Android 4.2 and Sense 5 in the future.

This was up in the air until just a short time ago when HTC confirmed that the Droid DNA would not be getting Android 4.3 first but would instead be getting Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Mackenzie confirmed the plans on Twitter and sadly, he didn’t update owners on timing, instead choosing to say that it will come with new Sense experiences by the end of the year.

Now what’s interesting is that HTC is heavily rumored to be coming out with Sense 5.5 in the next few weeks, an update to Sense 5 that will be introduced by the new HTC One max. Because Mackenzie didn’t outright say Sense 5, it could be that the Droid DNA will get Sense 5.5 instead of Sense 5. That’s just speculation, and something that is not backed up by the change log that Verizon posted to its site.

HTC’s vague confirmation now means that Droid DNA owners are as in the dark as they were before the company decided to confirm an Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for September.

We imagine that HTC and Verizon are working hard to get this software ready to go but at this point, its Android 4.2 update release date is up in the air.

So it looks like I will be receiving 4.2 after the release of 4.4 to the Nexus phones…Awesome…

I don’t think I will ever own another non-Nexus Android phone. I can’t handle all the hurdles in between my phone and Google’s software.

First Google makes the software and releases it to hardware manufacturers.

Then they take their time getting it tweaked to their versions (Not Just HTC).

Then the same updates have to go through the carrier approval process (to which Verizon takes the crown as most thorough, but extremely time consuming).

And then, finally, they roll out the update, usually in waves, so you still may not get it the second it’s released.

With a Nexus phone it ends when Google pushes the update straight to your phone. Much simpler.

Well, looks like you got to ditch Verizon in order to do what you planned, ‘cos it doesn’t look like Google is planning to release Nexus devices for Verizon any time soon…

That’s fine by me, once the contract is up who cares what network you’re on? Both have good coverage in the places I go.

Ya the timing sucks but HTC has way better phones and sense is by far the best thing out. Its such BS that they won’t release the new sense but who really cares about the Android version. Just hoock us up with sense 5 and no one would complain

Seriously…Verizon sucks and HTC isn’t buying brand loyalty screwing a NEW phone just about 1 year old now. Coupled with Verizon’s rip off pricing, this is two years of hell.

i feel you! not even a year and they take the dna off the market and make it there last priority over a phone that came out a few months a go like the htc one. that phone came out with sense 5 and shit, dna should get an update before them.

Verizon and HTC can go suck it. I hope they fail miserably, I’m going to T-Mobile once the nexus 5 comes out.

Done. I was so excited with getting the DNA. HTC and Verizon just do not care. Just expect you to buy the next ‘flagship’.

Ok this will be the last Android phone I will ever buy. I won’t have an upgrade til next year and I already know that I’m switching back to an iPhone. Sick of dumping money down the toilet on phones that never get freaking update. F**k Android!

Yeah… My Samsung devices were all more reliable and up to date than this HTC Flagship garbage. I took a big gamble giving HTC a shot. Never again.

This is why HTC is having so many problems! Bad news travels fast. Its like spending $600 on a new notebook and never getting software updates.

Wow… just got the latest “update.” Still no 4.2 OR Sense 5 upgrade, just some fixes to help with the vision impaired and the internet. They couldn’t have bundled it with the “big” upgrade that we’re all waiting for? They got my hopes up for no reason this morning.
