Droid Does… Better on Day Two

Published

on

DroidOur Droid was taken out for its first day in the field. Results were mixed. Reception where my wife Tanya works was not good. Streaming music over Pandora worked well enough, but calls were too garbled for her to tolerate. Will need to test further to see how much is the network and how much is Google Voice.

I did try dialing *228 as suggested, but this goes back to the activation protocol, which I’d just done. Rather than re-activate, I tried option 2 to update the roaming list. This seemed to work to an extent. I could stay on a call while walking through the ground floor of the house and one bar was showing, but the basement is still a complete dead zone. While my iPhone loses its signal regularly down here, the Droid is not getting one at all. Again though, this is not a dealbreaker as my wife prefers using the home phone at home.

The big success is the fun Tanya is having customizing the Droid. She was busy today setting up contacts and ringtones. Yes, I know, doesn’t seem like very good news given the limited voice coverage where we live and work, but again, we don’t make a lot of calls, so it’s more important that she’s enjoying using the Droid. That was the big question, and the answer is positive. I may turn her into a gadget geek yet.

Well, the *228 doesn’t start working for a few hours. Should have mentioned that earlier. Hope it’s getting better. I’m in the androidforums.com and you can get a lot of advice there. Plus, your phone is rooted so you can do more with it.

I don’t know. Still doing about the same this morning, so I’m probably just seeing regular signal fluctuation. Also, I haven’t rooted my Droid and don’t intend to.
