Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Just Days from Deadline

Published

on

While most of the Ice Cream Sandwich release date attention has been focused on the HTC ThunderBolt and Motorola Droid Bionic, one device’s ICS update has seemingly gotten lost in the shuffle. That device of course is the Droid Incredible 2 whose Ice Cream Sandwich update release date remains missing.

Earlier this year, HTC promised the update for sometime before the end of August. And while the update has already leaked out, a sign that there has at least been some progress, it remains unclear when the software will roll out.

Further complicating matters is the fact that Canadian carrier Bell claims that is HTC Incredible S won’t be getting Ice Cream Sandwich. The Incredible S is essentially Verizon’s Droid Incredible 2. They just have different names.

The Droid Incredible 2 ICS update now sits just days from its deadline.

That of course doesn’t mean the ICS update for the Droid Incredible 2 is canceled, after all, the GSM version of the Incredible S got its ICS update awhile ago. However, it could mean, if Bell is correct, that the update is giving HTC and carriers problems, something that could delay the update beyond its promises roll out date.

Remember, HTC and Verizon don’t have a problem blowing past these release windows without explanation. They did so with the HTC Rezound ICS update and they are bound to do so again. It’s just a matter of when.

Thus far, HTC and Verizon remain mum on the Droid Incredible 2 ICS update, even after the software leaked and even though we sit just a few days from the end of August.

We’ve heard from a number of Droid Incredible 2 owners who are sick of the wait and sick of the silence in terms of an ICS timeline. Unfortunately, if HTC and Verizon follow their usual route, owners won’t know when is arriving until the day of.

We hope that that date falls inside of August or else HTC and Verizon risk damaging their Android update credibility more than they already have.

With the end of August in sight, we should know for sure soon.

Really hoping this update gets released soon, bugs me how time tables and deadlines mean nothing in the world of technology, in which you’d presume something could be accurate to the fraction of a second…

I hope they update the Droid Incredible 2 today or tomorrow, or if not, within a week, I could see it taking time to get to phones. Isn’t there a new Droid Incredible coming out? If so what is it called, can’t remember.

The “new Droid Incredible” your thinking of is the recently leaked HTC Droid Incredible X or Droid Incredible 3 it will run ICS and have amazing speeds that like all android phones beat the Iphone… When will Apple learn their companies old and raggedy Android’s the uprising technology wiz and the Iphone’s a failure in attempt of success.

I’ve been following this, but I’m not tech savvy- what is ics going to do to my HTC Droid Inc 2? And, is it an auto download? This thing works great- what will be better?

You know…I don’t mind them missing a deadline as I would rather them take the time to ensure a quality product…but at least take the time and courtesy to let the customers know what is going on. Being in the dark blows all kinds of dicks.

I really with that my area had better coverage from AT&T or T-Mobile. I really want a GSM Galaxy Nexus and to get away from Verizon’s incredibly slow update roll out.

HTC no longer announces dates for release of software due to the nature of the software development process. At any point in the software development cycle a situation may be encountered that requires anything from some minor additional rework, to complete rewrites of the software base. Only after the final acceptance testing has been successfully completed will HTC release software. The normal time period between the final acceptance testing and release of software is about a week and often shorter than that.
