Droid Incredible 4G LTE Release Date Pegged for May 17th

We had heard that May 10th might be the Droid Incredible 4G LTE release date but a new report tosses another date into the hat as a possible launch date for Verizon’s upcoming 4G LTE smartphone.

In a quick note, Droid-Life mentions that it has heard that May 17th, a Thursday, might in fact be the release date for the Droid Incredible 4G LTE and not the May 10th day that was rumored last month.

Verizon likes to launch phones on Thursday and both May 10th and May 17th are Thursdays.

And while we still don’t have a date pinpointed exactly, it’s becoming clear that HTC and Verizon are shooting for a May release of a phone that figures to replace the HTC Droid Incredible 2 and very likely, the HTC Rezound as well.

As we’ve said, both dates make sense because it allows for the smoke around the Samsung Galaxy S III event, set to take place later today, and the launch of AT&T’s HTC One X, to settle.

Verizon has been able to keep the release date of the device a secret but just about everything else surrounding the phone has been leaked to the surface.

The new Droid Incredible 4G LTE is rumored to have a 4-inch qHD display, a dual-core S4 Snapdragon processor, 4G LTE capabilities, and a design that is reminiscent of the previous two Droid Incredible smartphones.

Those interested can get a feel for that design by watching the Droid Incredible 2 video below.

It should also be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Google’s latest and greatest mobile operating system.

We don’t expect Verizon to make an official announcement regarding the device until shortly before it’s released so it could be a couple of weeks before we know, officially, about the phone and its release date.

Excited about the phone, but I’ve read 4 different predicted release date, April 21, April 26th, May 10th and now the 17th. This rollercoaster sure has a lot of ups and downs.

    Mostly Downs…

I’m waiting to see what the Droid Fighter (RAZR HD?) is going to have for SoC. If it’s the same Snapdragon S4 as the HTC Inc 4G / Samsung GS3 then we basically have Verizon rolling 3 phones with nearly identical hardware performance. It will be a matter of which skin you prefer (T-WIZ, Sense, etc.) and small features of the phone (e.g. the front facial recognition of the SGS3).

If the Fighter / RAZR HD Comes with the Snapdragon S4, 720p HD Screen, and the same 3000 mAh MAXX battery…it’s going to have alot stacked in it’s favor.

Of course, HTC can’t wait too long to launch this phone because rumor is the SGS3 is going to be launched in the US in June, and if that announcement gets made before the HTC Inc 4G launch it will gobble up alot of potential sales for them.

I have to disagree with Chris here. So many people are talking about phone specs as though they’re the most important thing but phones are different than most electronic devices (like TV’s, DVD players, or even computers) because we spend more time with them and take them everywhere we go. So for many people (myself included), specs take a back seat to what’s most important: Form factor.

I agree that an early SGS3 announcement may affect sales of the Inc 4G but I don’t think it will have that much impact. With a purported 4.8 inch screen the Galaxy will be a monster, while the Incredible has a pretty small screen and appears to have been designed as a compact phone with a narrow and thin body. It’s a much awaited answer to the call of many for a phone that doesn’t follow the now common path of ‘bigger is better’ that a lot of people abhor.

I’ve actually seen a lot of postings on various boards where people are wondering why HTC and Verizon are even bothering with the Incredible given its specs. They all miss the point though, which again is that there are people all over the place who have been holding off on buying a new phone because we don’t want a tablet PC in our pockets.

So I think these 3 phones have different and distinct markets. The Moto Fighter is another large phone (4.6 inch screen), and even if it comes with a big battery it will be too large for the folks who will be in the market for an Incredible. And while the Moto and Samsung may be compared to each other spec-wise, Motorola has a hugely loyal customer base which thinks (rightly so in my opinion) that Samsung phones, while they may be cutting edge, are cheaply built. Then again, on the other hand Samsung IS very cutting edge and there are always those people who just want the newest tech.

So, to me it sounds like there’s something for everyone here. And again, I for one (and I know I’m not alone) have been eagerly waiting for the release of a compact, relatively small-screened smart phone with LTE and ICS. I’m stoked the Inc 3 is near on the horizon.

        agreed

I’m actually sort of bummed at the moment at how there are literally no higher end compact Android 4g phones available on Verizon right now. Last time around in 2010 when I was getting a phone, the Incredible was perfect for me… right now, I’m ready for a phone and there’s nothing out there I’m interested in.
