The Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Jelly Bean updates appear to be close to rolling out as the updates are seemingly set to enter the soak test phase which means that, if everything goes well, we could be just a few days away from the software finally reaching owners who were teased with the updates back in December.

Back in December of last year, on precisely December 24th, Motorola and Verizon surprised Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, an update that hadn’t even received a release window yet from Motorola. The surprise turned out to be a mistake as Motorola and Verizon pulled the update soon after and quickly announced a roll out window for the update’s arrival.

Motorola, at the time, said the updates would roll out in the first quarter of this year, a time frame that encompasses January, February and March. That time frame was backed up by a listing on the company’s Android support page that emerged last week. And now, it’s looking like Motorola and Verizon will keep their promise as a soak test for the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Jelly Bean updates has reached owners of both devices.

A participant in the soak test has informed Droid-Life of the test and it looks like it’s going to start in the near future. This bodes well for an update in the near future as well. Typically, soak tests go off without a hitch which means that owners generally see the update a few days or, worst case scenario, a few weeks after the test begins.

That said, it looks like the updates may indeed roll out before the Q1 window closes on the updates. Of course, Motorola and Verizon have until the end of March to keep that promise so it could be that we have a few more weeks of waiting.

The updates are going to be important ones for owners, not just because of Android 4.1 itself, but because many owners have been complaining about issues since the end of June when Android 4.0 ICS rolled out.

There is no guarantee that this update will fix all of those issues but given that we never saw a bug fix update, owners are likely hoping that Android 4.1 is the remedy.

Is it going to be the same build that was pushed out in December?

Jelly bean regurge. Who cares as it seems every revision comes with bugs. I’m on JB right now and I’m not wowed yet.
