Droid RAZR & RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Bug Fix Update Coming in Mid-August?

Published

on

We had heard that the Motorola Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich bug fix update would arrive at some point in August and now we have some more information about the possible timing of the update.

Yesterday we informed you that the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX bug fix update, an update that is slated to kill off the bugs that ICS brought along with it, is still on track for August. We had originally told you that Verizon was shooting for an August release.

Read: Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Owners Reporting Ice Cream Sandwich Issues.

Well, now we have a bit of a time tablet to share as a source has told us that a soak test for the update is slated to roll out in 2-3 weeks, around the same time that the Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update is rumored to be hitting testers.

The Droid RAZR bug fix update could arrive in mid-August.

That apparently is the target window that the carrier has for the update and that could mean, should the soak test go well, that the update might arrive for Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners in the middle of August.

Keep in mind, this is Android software and Verizon paired together, and it’s very possible that we could see this time table change.

This bug fix update has been in the works since shortly after Verizon rolled out the Ice Cream Sandwich update to Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX owners at the end of June.

Those updates brought a host of issues to device owners, likely because Motorola and Verizon were under the gun to get the update out to hit the Q2 deadline that Motorola had imposed.

As we’ve told you, there is a remedy that device owners can try in an attempt to fix the issues that ICS brought along with it.

Read: How to Fix Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Issues.

The fix has been a mixed bag of results with some reporting a better experience and others not seeing any improvement after performing the fix.

So, for now, circle mid-August in pencil on the calendar and we’ll keep you in the loop as far as an update is concerned, just like we promised we would.

I got to use a Droid RAZR phone that received the original ICS update. The update is awesome. Not sure what everyone is complaining about. The web browser no longer gets bogged down by Flash at all. The original ICS update fixes the browser lockup issues. Unlike with GB, the browser never freezes up. Ever. The original ICS update makes the Droid RAZR as fast, smooth and stable as a Nexus 7 tablet.

When vista was released, I was one of the few who didn’t mind the crap OS because I could deal with it. ICS isn’t even in the same ballpark, this OS sucks! Obviously Motorola released something that was NOT ready to be released. Its disappointing to see these companies release complete sh*t just to make a deadline.

You geezers need to take a chill pill ICS is the most intuitive android IS yet. Any newly upgraded software will always have bugs that need to be worked out. Android 4.0 iS amazing compared to the previous crappy gingerbread

I bet you can’t go to YouTube desktop version & play any videos. post a video on YouTube of you doing it, otherwise, i don’t believe you. Also, it made lapdocks & docking stations USELESS. ICS is a POS.

No more Firefox for hd docking station & lapdocks. No more multitasking with the split screen on the TV so you can no longer make calls while surfing the web, ir using regular phone browser while using Firefox. It no longer does what the Motorola YouTube commercial advertised. For those of you saying ICS has no issues, you must not use you’re phones. ICS took flash off the phone, and several sites require flash. I can no longer watch hulu our any other site that stands videos because of no Fireox

Every since the ice cream sandwich software was downloaded on my cellphone I’ve had problems. even with all the bars for 4 g network are lit up internet access is intermittent. have the stuff that’s in the manual for the ice cream sandwich I don’t have on my phone. when I go into settings and security I don’t have a feature where I can take my photo to unlock my phone. I only have 1 option which is to use pattern I can’t even change it to use a pin number. voice recognition sucks. this new software package is FUBAR ( f***** up beyond all recognition)!! you need to fix that s*** now! I can’t believe I’m actually paying for this every month!!!

Motorola relesed a garbage update and that is the bottom line it is really sad when quality control is thrown out of the window just to meet a release date know it was not ready to be rolled out Houston we have a problem and it is called icecream sandwich.

Lots of problems with ICS: videos stopping suddenly and disappearing from SD card, duplicate videos appearing and then both disappearing when duplicates deleted, applications randomly starting, settings harder to use, much higher battery use so that I must manually disable bluetooth, wifi, gps, etc. when not in use and can’t use active desktops (I could do that before, but now exhausts battery twice as quickly). I’m shocked at all the problems ICS caused me, and I know I’m not alone. I can’t stop the horrible “DROID” sound on reboot, whereas before that could be disabled. ICS is an improvement in some ways, but for me overshadowed by problems. I was happy to move from blackberry, now I long for the days of stability.

Why aren’t there any legitimate complaints here? I bought my Maxx several months ago, I was there for the ICS update (and not the forced one, either. I did it myself the first day). Since then I’ve had one experience with the random selection bug (worst bug I’ve ever seen), several experiences with the keyboard closing, and a couple of other little things. All of them were cleared up by doing one of 3 things: reboot, soft reset, or cache wipe from the bios. Some phones, depending on how they’re set up, which apps are installed, yadda yadda, will react worse to the update. Sure. With Android, no two phones are exactly alike. Their strength is customization. Did they roll it out a bit early? Sure. Bit ICS is by no means a bad OS. In fact, its the best I’ve ever used on an android device. So quit bitching until after the bug fix update or go get a damn iPhone. For those of you who really no nothing about Android (yet still complain about ICS), do some research and try to fix the bugs yourself. You may learn something about your phone.

Dude, read the comments & read what you wrote. You uploaded your own version of ICS. They aren’t all the same. I rooted my Did Bionic with ICS & only had 1 complaint. It wouldn’t work with my HD docking station. The forced update is MUCH DIFFERENT than the leaks. The different leaks aren’t even the same as each other. Before you get on here criticizing complaints, get a clue. You sound very ignorant. I’m sure that if you had the OTA update, you’d be complaining to, & I bet your leaked version has Adobe Flash player! Well, we don’t.

Typo…you’d be complaining *TOO*, not *to* (a pet peeve)

Haha, I only got through the 1st half of your comment before responding, then decided to read the rest. I bet you feel REALLY STUPID after now realizing that the leaked version & the forced version are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ICS roms. BTW, I want to clarify that I have the DROID Bionic & the Razr Maxx. My Bionic was rooted with a leaked version of ICS, my Maxx was forced. Back to your stupidity! Damn homie, all that crap you were talking & it’s YOU that hadn’t a clue about Android phones. You actually thought leaked versions are the same as OTA’s, & you called US stupid (in so many words) WOW! OH THE IRONY!

So when do I get the bug fix so my Razr stops; running almost 700 mb of RAM with half the apps of the old OS while the old OS only use 400 mb of RAM at its PEAK, hesitating when I do ANUTHING like slide from screen to screen, type ANYTHING, taking so long to load a web page, randomly deleting emaols, etc….?
