DROID Turbo Problems Fixed in New Update

Published

on

On July 1st after months of waiting and countless delays the popular Verizon Motorola DROID Turbo finally received an update to Android 5.1 Lollipop. Along with it came a brand new interface, tons of changes and new features, but also multiple bugs that have been plaguing owners.

The DROID Turbo by Motorola was released just a few weeks before Android 5.0 Lollipop debuted by Google, and ended up being stuck on Android 4.4 KitKat for a long, long time. Users were growing impatient and it finally arrived earlier this month.

However, Android 5.1 Lollipop finally arrived and brought an entire new experience to the DROID Turbo, one that most owners are enjoying, but it has its share of problems. We’ve heard countless complaints, and as of late last night Verizon started pushing another update that we’re hearing has fixed many of these issues. Read on for more details.

Once Android 5.1 Lollipop arrived for the DROID Turbo owners got a completely revamped and all-new interface with Google’s material design, new features, a changed notification pulldown bar and lock screen, VoLTE HD calling features and more.

That said, we’ve heard horror stories about battery life being pretty bad, MMS messages have been failing to send, and cannot be received, WiFi issues, connection drops, and even the Turbo Charging is reportedly not charging as fast.

We’re not sure exactly what all is going on, and each user has different results. While most have been experiencing positive results after the update, there are still a large amount of owners complaining about the update. With that, early this morning on July 21st Verizon started pushing out another update. The changelog doesn’t mention anything, and basically outlines the huge Lollipop update, rather than what’s actually new in this small maintenance update.

However, now that the latest update has started hitting owners smartphones today, we can confirm it is fixing multiple problems users have been facing. Our inbox has been hit with more than a few users who claim today’s update fixed the MMS problem, battery life seems improved, and other small refinements. However, one user reported the screen keeps going to max brightness, so that’s something to watch out for.

Verizon recommends all DROID Turbo owners to accept the over the air update rolling out today, which is either a huge update right to Android 5.1 Lollipop, or a small 29mb file with some behind the scenes changes as mentioned above.

Owners can wait for the update to arrive, or head into settings > about phone > and manually check for updates themselves. It’s also worth checking out our DROID Turbo Lollipop Problems & Fixes post for those who still are experiencing issues after the update.

Did you receive an update for the DROID Turbo today, after the Android 5.1 Lollipop update last week? If so drop a comment below if you’re experiencing any problems, or if some have been fixed.

I’m experiencing a bad lag with my camera. I like that its 21mp, but it lags and has to refocus several times before it will actually take the picture. I’ve tried changing settings but still doesn’t help. I liked the set up of the camera on my old phone(galaxy s4) better.

I did notice that I was having some texting issues and the battery wasn’t staying charged as long, I guess this explains why. I just got the notification and download tonight.

Lollipop soft bricked my turbo. The touchscreen completely stopped working after the update and it had to be replaced by Verizon.

I just updated my droid turbo. Had about 50% battery and it was plugged in.I used it for like 10 minutes and then it froze. I left it alone for a while and then I heard the power on sound. Figured it just restarted. It was off. I tried to turn it back on but that didnt work. i plugged it in to charge and nothing happened.

    Is my phone dead?

I have an annoying prob with lolipop update…I downloaded the first offering for my Turbo a few weeks ago and now the bug update today. Ever since when my phone sleeps and I activate it my phone/contacts screen appears not my home screen…have tried everything…how do it get my Turbo to start up with my home screen?

You are probably unlocking it to the phone screen. If you swipe up from the middle it will go to home, swipe from the left is phone/contacts, and the right is camera.

My battery life stinks on my New (one month old) droid turbo! 3 days ago I did some UPGRADE that the phone prompted me to do! Now it won’t even keep a charge for more than 6 hours, even tho I charged it on the super charger! This upgrade changed almost everything! This is ridiculous! What do I do now?

Try a factory reset Tonya. After the first lollipop update my battery life was pretty awful. I did a factory reset and it improved. And Since this latest update its improved greatly.

They also snuck the worst security bs on this too… My data shortcut widget will not, and ever work again because it’s part of a new policy where third party enablers can no longer work for security reasons. Most used button of mine, worthless now. I also cannot connect to WiFi anymore.

Why are the windows of different apps combined with windows from Mozilla Firefox (or any other Safari). It’s NOT convenient, it’s annoying.

In March 2015 I was having all of these issues -so bad that even Verizon finally just replaced my phone. It’s been 6 months (October 2015 now) and my messaging is TERRIBLE (won’t send, receive, locks up), my battery is starting to deplete quickly again, and my WiFi drops all the time. Last month my data service doubled due to the WiFi dropping all the time. This happened back in February and March with my first Droid Turbo. SOOOOO disappointed. I’ve always had an android but now I might have to switch to an iphone….not really what I wanted to do.

My messages are going from. New constantly says I have new messages. Lag bad with the phone. Internet is awful, keeps freezing. My camera and recorder is lagging. The worst update I’ve had. Everytime I do an update it always screws something up. The last phone I had just after 2 month it fries completely and I lost everything
