Evasi0n iOS 6.1 Jailbreak Bug Fixes Coming Soon

Published

on

The evasi0n iOS 6.1 jailbreak tool arrived early Monday letting many users jailbreak the iPhone 5, iPad 4 and other devices running iOS 6.1.

Most users report that the evasi0n jailbreak tool worked without any issues, allowing users to gain access to Cydia apps and tweaks, but there are some small issues that the evad3rs are working on fixing.

After the evasi0n jailbreak the weather app is not working for some users. Others are experiencing a long reboot on a jailbroken iOS devices. In the case of the broken weather app, affected users are not able to see weather details in the weather app, though our iPhone 5 is not affected.

The good news is that the evad3rs have already figured out how to fix the broken weather app for users that used the evasi0n iOS 6.1 jailbreak tool.

These fixes will make their way into the evasi0n app when the team updates the jailbreak tool and will also show up as an update in Cydia for anyone who has already used the evasi0n app so there is no need to re-jailbreak to get the fixes. There is no eta on when the fixes will appear in Cydia, but users will see a notification in the app when the fix is live. Pod2g says the issue is not evasi0n’s fault and that it may fix other issues.

Users who don’t want to wait for the Cydia update ot fix the weather app can run the fix on their own thanks to instructions from the evad3rs. Users will need to install Open SSH and Mobile Terminal from Cydia and use pod2g’s script and the following directions.

  1. Open Mobile Terminal then type: “su root” without the quotes and press enter.
  2. Type your password, likely “alpine” without the quotes.
  3. Copy and paste the script below into Mobile Terminal.
#!/bin/bash
chmod -x /usr/libexec/mobile_installation_proxy
killall -9 mobile_installation_proxy
rm /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-045.csstore
launchctl stop com.apple.mobile.installd
launchctl start com.apple.mobile.installd
while [ ! -f /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist ];
do
      sleep 1
done
while [ ! -f /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-045.csstore ];
do
      sleep 1
done
sleep 10
chmod +x /usr/libexec/mobile_installation_proxy
sync
reboot

Wait for the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to reboot and the weather app should work. Users can also just wait for the Cydia update to appear.

Stay tuned for the latest iOS 6.1 jailbreak news.
